Hello,

Im producing one track for my friend and i have trouble finding some good KICKs for dance production.
Im searching for kick-s that are used in tracks from PREZIOSO, GIGI'D AGOSTINO, MOLELA...
Can somebody tell me where to find them.

Thanks, Fiki

Well, Im not THAT familiar with the names you mentioned ... but, I am very familiar with the BXR label (which Gigi i believe foundered). So i think i know the sounds you mean. Basically, think 909 / 808. All those BXR tunes feature slightly tweaked 909 kicks which suit the music perfectly. For example, take a kick from Rebirth or whatever, then run it through a bit of overdrive or fuzz, then compress. Its also common practice to layer punchy sampled kicks over electronic ones so its likely that some were produced this way. I wish i could tell you the name of a CD featuring a lot of these sounds, but i dont think one exsists! There are loads which have alright sounds, but none you'd write home about. I'd imagine that Zero-G's Wired would be the closest, but I'd go it alone and craft my own. It really isnt that hard when you try. Make a hundred using the same technique, and you'll find 10 or 20 that i just the job!

But if all else fails, sample them of the tracks you like. Iv bought second hand CD singles of Amazon at like 1 quid and shit! Worth it for a top sound that you really like.

I think that Gigi D'Agostino's music dont have only the 909 or 808 kick drum. I belive this because their kick have a high frequency component. I make hard trance/house music like Gigi and i use a kick from Komplete that is like a mix between 909 and real drum kicks.

Yes, you're right these guys do layer. But the classic BXR kicks are typically processed 909. Trust me, when you drive a 909 kick you'll be supprised with the results. This process not only adds power but also a fair amount of higher frequecies, which is responsible for the punch.

Either way works, but both offer different varieties of result. My advise - explore both methods!
