SPL Rangers EQ for 9$ worth it ?

I'd like your opinions on this plugin. I was looking to add a little flavor to my selection. I have Melda EQs, VEQ4 , Kramer HLS and Slick EQ. I'm looking to complete my 'tone' eqs with a fourth one. I tried API from Waves wich I like. I have my eyes on Sonimus EQ too. But 9$ is so easy to spend!
Will I use this plugin or just throwing money away you guys think ?

I was kind of "meh" after purchasing it last time it was on sale, but this would compliment what you already have as these are graphic eqs whereas most of your others are parametric. If you want "tone" or coloration though, these won't really impart anything outside of what a standard digital EQ will do. Go with the Sonimus or something that introduces harmonics when the EQ is null if that's what you are after.

Absolutely worth it for that price - you just have to learn when to use them. I use them as tone shapers and then at later stages of a mix when you want make subtle cuts and boost to individual tracks or busses. Have a play around with them on various things and then try to match what you've done with a regular parametric - you will have a very hard time. And yes, before someone else points it out - the frequency bands will not match what you see on plugin analyser - but that's not the point - just forget that, use you ears, and you may see the benefit of an eq like this. I was lucky - a friend of mine bought them for me and I didn't use them for months - when I finally got round to trying them out properly I saw the benefit of them.

I was wondering the same thing after demoing it today (easy or clutter?) I came upon a 2009 SOS review that seems accurate:
I was skeptical when I first saw the plug‑in's basic layout but soon became a convert when I heard it in action. This EQ is really very effective at pushing or subduing the necessary frequencies in a way that keeps the sound solid and focused, and because you don't have all the controls of a parametric EQ, you get the job done quickly and effectively without getting bogged down.

That was exactly my experience - very useful on busses and tracks alike for pushing or pulling things in and out of 'focus'.Michael L wrote:I was wondering the same thing after demoing it today (easy or clutter?) I came upon a 2009 SOS review that seems accurate:

I'm a huge fan of the Waves API EQs. 550B is about 80% of my EQing.Boone777 wrote: I tried API from Waves wich I like. I have my eyes on Sonimus EQ too. But 9$ is so easy to spend!
The plugin I'm really keen to try is the Sly-fi Axis, which is based on the API but with saturation and extra features. I've heard great things from a friend.

I agree it's not a total in your face tone it's kind a subtle but I heard something particular while demoing it...pandashake wrote:I was kind of "meh" after purchasing it last time it was on sale, but this would compliment what you already have as these are graphic eqs whereas most of your others are parametric. I exaclty did that! I tried to replicate the curves with MeldaEQ and adding saturation too. I was'nt able to replicate what it was doing. And I had a very quick good sounding vocal with it. Also the 'telephone' sound from it is great.do_androids_dream wrote:Absolutely worth it for that price - you just have to learn when to use them. Thanks for all replies, my experiences and your input is enough to spend 9$ today !!

At only 9 bux, heck yeah they are worth it. I've been using the free version for quite some time, the 40hz band gives serious thump to kick drums. what I love about graphic eqs is that you can boost at one frequency, then copy the plugin to another channel and reduce the exact same frequency where you boosted on the previous channel. Sometimes you just don't want to mess with a parametric eq.

Forget Sonimus Eq.It sucks.SPL is smoother.I just bought for only Full Ranger.I don't think that i will use Bass or Vox Rangers. It's great for cleaning some freqs and add some bottom&top.Has no its own character. It's really pure.

It's done. a 9$ purchase...I'm sure to regret it for the rest of my life...
not!
Like stated before, it's WHEN to use it that's important. It sounded to my ears that I can find uses for it and everybody seem happy about it. And now I'm gear happy !

Ooo well....that's what happens when you get squeezed by time as a customer ! You are more eager to buy !
The ears is the final judge as always so i'llmove the sliders until it sounds good ! It's not meant to be surgical anyways...but it is a weird behavior when bands are far from what is expected to be boosted/cut .
