That's probably because you're testing with an Iris 2 factory preset (which is linking to a dedicated sample folder), I can't double check because I never installed them, and as I said, this only works for patches with embedded samples.rustman wrote:That must be a Mac thing. I was using Iris 1 patches. They point to a separate samples folder which is in the .IRSS format, but yes, they don't have the samples embedded. No big deal anyway. Nothing special there, and I think most, if not all are duplicated in the Iris 2 library.

The Iris 1 patches and expansion packs are only included in Iris 2 as raw samples, as they have to be manually converted which iZotope never did as far as I know.rustman wrote:I was using Iris 1 patches. More than a year on, and all the things that were wrong with it back then, are still wrong with it today.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

I have a question: how many samples are there in Iris 2? I know it's 11 GB, but how many individual pieces are there, how many categories, diversity etc?
I actually consider using it as a sample library rather than standalone synth. You know, there are things like granular synthesis, resynthesis (Harmor, Loom) or awesome Ableton samplers.

In my opinion, one of the best things about Iris 2 is its Radius RT pitch shift mode; very high quality. I love creating sounds using samples with "events" in them that don't speed up and slow down as the pitch is changed. Great when playing chords.

This point is directly trounced on by many who instead had hoped for true Time Stretching in v2. Many were outspokenly critical of this CPU intensive feature.tdm wrote:In my opinion, one of the best things about Iris 2 is its Radius RT pitch shift mode; very high quality. The Radius RT mode in v2 is 100% identical with version 1, nothing ever changed here, nor did anything else change concerning the core of Iris - the spectral filtering/masking. All they added was some eye candy, and independently routable LFOs and envelopes, a few more average filters, the CPU load increased drastically in version 2, the random+hold LFO broke and never got fixed (speed can only be modulated via Midi, not via Macros or other modulators, and sometimes it only holds but does not sample), the interpolation of the Macros got much worse and now all Macros produce clicking artifacts when automated, especially when assigned to filter cutoff and volume, the FX send section got broke as they routed the sends pre-amp envelope, they wanted to add to least a pre/post switch, but never did. The entire modulation system got borked so you couldn't assign several modulators to e.g. amplitude or filter as they now interfere with each other so all Iris 1 patches broke and had to be converted manually.musiclover55547 wrote:This point is directly trounced on by many who instead had hoped for true Time Stretching in v2. Loading times for programs increased a lot, graphics got much slower when zooming in/out in long samples (make a coffee while zooming, even on fast graphic cards/computers), the saving system got confusing so you could easily loose patches... and I could go on for 3 pages but I am only parroting myself so shut up.

I see your point, but as v2 was the first version of Iris I purchased, I like what it does . . . warts and all. I have many plugins with bugs / limitations / bad UI design, but if I can get something unique out of them (and I do with Iris 2), that's all I care about.

Yes, that's exactly the point, there is a big difference if a user never used version 1, so all the problems discussed in this thread are of no concern to those users and it's good that they can enjoy version 2 more than we legacy users can - and that is not meant ironically at all.tdm wrote:

Just for the records: while converting more Iris 1 presets for Iris 2, I discovered another bug - when you assign the modulation wheel to the main output gain using negative values, e.g. something like -20% to compensate for the gain boost introduced by the distortion FX (also assigned to the wheel), the next time you open the preset the wheel will totally mute the output when fully engaged, as the master output knob at the top of the UI can't be assigned to any controller anymore, the only workaround is to individually assign negative values to the individual outputs of each oscillator.
...and no, I don't expect a fix, after all we have been working around the other bugs for over a year now.

While converting more patches I noticed today, that this bug also occurs when assigning controllers with positive values to the master output gain, e.g. to boost the overall level when assigning FX amount levels to that respective controller (like the modulation wheel) which will significantly lower the level. The next time you open the patch, dialing in that controller will mute the output when fully engaged and the positive value setting stored in the patch is lost (or was never stored, who knows). Sigh...Sampleconstruct wrote:Just for the records: while converting more Iris 1 presets for Iris 2, I discovered another bug - when you assign the modulation wheel to the main output gain using negative values, e.g. something like -20% to compensate for the gain boost introduced by the distortion FX (also assigned to the wheel), the next time you open the preset the wheel will totally mute the output when fully engaged, as the master output knob at the top of the UI can't be assigned to any controller anymore, the only workaround is to individually assign negative values to the individual outputs of each oscillator.

Melodyme 4 was just anouinced:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 8#p6355388
which got me thinking that in Iris 3 they added blobs on the waveform.
Just as good to subdivide the waveform into chords or melodic sections.
How about midi notes on top of the waveform as in Cubase midi note expression?
