Speaking of Vintage Vault, I assume it loads into Falcon effortlessly?
Yes and yes. You can't, however, use the voucher on Relayer or Sparkverb.

BTW have you done any comparisons between sparkverb and eareverb 2? Seem pretty different but now in about the same price bracket.

Post

Haven't done that yet. They are just so very different. I'm definitely getting EAReverb 2 first as I already own version 1 so the update is very cheap for me. I also love the sound of version 2. It's incredibly usable and deep. Probably one of the best reverb plugins around for "realistic" reverb (I even prefer it over Valhalla Room).

Sparkverb is interesting in a very different way. It reminds me of a good workstation synth "generic" reverb. Something that is very useful for a lot of synth sounds. It's also got a "tone" that none of my other reverbs has.. I am however quite saturated with reverb offerings so I'm going to wait and see if I need Sparkverb at all.

I can tell you from the last sale that it does stack with the sales.

I purchased the Orch Suite when it was 30% off. I cant speak for Vintage Suite but the Orch Suite loaded in falcon without any issues.

Sparkverb is incredibly smooth and even sounding in a very unrealistic but pleasing way - haven't gotten any other reverb to sound quite like it. I think it might be justified to own EAReverb - Lexicon PCM and Sparkverb as a trio of realistic - semi-realistic - unrealistic reverbs, like I'm going to do. :)

What do you think of Orch Suite? Im quite tempted...
(Im a little concerned that often the the bundled orchestra libraries are a bit limited...)

What did others buy in the last sale? would you recommend?
(main thoughts so far are Orch Suite, PlugSound Pro .... perhaps Prep Piano, but not really sure I want to spend that much on top of voucher.. also considered Perc Store/Gongs, World traditions, but not really after loops, more sample fodder :) )

I just bought Orch Suite since with the coupon from Falcon and the sale it was only $39. It's not super fancy with zillions of articulations but I like it. Very easy to use and sounds fine for many applications. For $39 it's a complete no brainer. I quite like the horn sounds and like I said...super easy to use. Absolutely great for quickly trying out an instrument in a new composition and many of the sounds are great right out of the box with no tweaking. Very cool.

That's good to hear - I'm tempted :D

If anybody has Falcon as well, how is this library for layering up some strings with other samples to make up some super lush pads ? I'd probably use it for it's sample content rather than 'out of the box' orchestral sounds - is it any good for that ?

I've recently used my 100$ coupon for buying the UVI Orchestra Suite.

Be aware that the samples in the Orchestra Suite aren't phase-locked. When riding the modwheel for expressive articulation, phasing artifacts are audible.

Maybe it's just me being spoiled by the orchestral/solo libraries for Kontakt.

This was exactly why i bought it, to create epic pads etc and so far i don't regret my purchase.
As mentioned articulations are a bit lacking but i didn't purchase it to use as a standalone, I purchased it to use "with" falcon and to teach my kids about the different instruments. It's very good to create ambient tracks with too.

Thank you UVI for sponsoring SonicTalk [url] [url]
That is where I learned of Falcon.
There is an interesting mention of rhythmic impulse responses in the above as well.

I am unable to fully install Falcon 1.0.1. iLok pops up a message:
A background component required for iLok License Manager seems to be unavailable. If rebooting does not fix this issue, please visit iLok.com and download and run the latest License Support installer.
Done the un-install/re-install dance twice already now, with reboots between each stage, but still the same result. Software Update within the license manager reports to me that I am running the latest version.

I wondered if anyone else has seen this? Falcon works in standalone, but does not appear in any of my DAWs.

I assume you are on windows? If that is the case then you need to start the ILM service in the task manager.

Has anyone managed to get something like a melodic (playable chromatically), bell-like or vibraphone-like sound out of the string oscillator? I have not been able to come up with something that I like. I think that I might be bumping up against the string resonator model. I can get a chime or bell using the inharmonic coupling that sounds pretty convincing but then I can't play a scale or chord with it.

I am thinking something like Chromaphone, which has other resonator models that AFAIK are more complex than simple 1D strings or two coupled 1D strings. I am thinking about getting Chromaphone during the current sale even though the GUI, and in particular some of the fonts, is sort of tiny on my HD monitor.

I have found that getting fairly nice-sounding steel or nylon-stringed acoustic guitar-like or harp-likes sounds is not all that tough with Falcon. I also like the sort of thing that can be done using samples for the excitation as in the "Water pluck" factory (reminds me of Kaivo but not quite as complex).
