i wanted to make a video to "prove" the production method for the voices for DBFS, course, with a netbook processor that doesn't handle screen capture and 104 seconds of camera record time, ...well, it wouldn't really matter what i was using, who can prove anything.

for those of you who are interested in good faith,

heck i've tried in good faith to help and show as best i can. serves me eh.

Another good job. I like how that is working out. I think I might try that as well.

i had another round of this process, fitting it to non-4/4 rhythms ("odd count" hiphop being one of my cultural advocacy ambitions).. loaded the lot on bandcamp in an unfinished state, will try and improve them later.

the second time around was a bit more demanding because "i knew what the process produced" and had more of a sense of expectation. what i found is that eliciting intelligible results also requires attentive focus in the processing stage.. eqing seems to change the character of the results significantly (more than eqing a normal voice recording.. as you can hear, there are ..like, "octave effects" on some voices.. do you draw out the lower or higher register?). so both the synthesis and effecting stage need egoless awareness to draw out what is there instead of what is desired.

i'm not sure it was really any more successful either.. seems about the same % of easy/difficult to discern.. "wattsup" is relatively clear most of the way through.. "boy i said what's up.." and about 4 measures later.. "i'll say it nicely though.."

it's funny though (haha)

i had an audio track of noise i'd used in an album several years ago where i was doing the "voicelike" thing again, without any intention of evoking intelligence... i reuse the audio as source in various ways. when i auditioned it recently, my "improved sensibility" immediately heard more than i had before. so EVP hmm.

another thing..

earlier today i overheard some "christmas hold music" on a cellphone which was severely... i mean severely garbled by some decompression process.. as warbly as any of the f**ked up voices in these tracks.. barely discernible as "jngle bells" or whatever underneath it..

..so i wondered, if the warble was an example of "EVP everywhere.." manifesting more clearly wherever digital glitches permit it to...

i mean, shit.. eg. "what's up" is really very clear "i guess once you allow yourself to hear it". tbh, aside from the fact that i didn't start this project with an intent for these results, there is an emphatic objective on my part and the part of "contributing entities" for this material to assist people in ..opening the third ear :p maybe that works better when you roll your own.. (i bet it does..) but it is really funny.. so many parts of the composition process "arrive" at points clearly indicated.. melodies, layered parts, different voices.. waiting for me to add a certain sound or process.. while often sardonic in character, i believe the intent to be very benevolent. what doesn't kill me...???
