HP Athlon 64 3400 mobile... SHould i buy

Hi,
Im thinking about buying a new computer (i currently have a rev b 667 g4 powerbook). The main one i am considering is a HP Athlon 64 Mobile 3400 notebook. My question is, how does this compare to the desktop versions, single and dual, and to the compriable Intel 3.4 ghz laptop? I was thinking about getting 1 stick og 1gb ram, but does that slow it down? should i get 2 512's instead, could a 1gb and one 512 work? Fully configured it looks like its gonna come to $2300.

Also, is now a good time to buy, is there anything in the works that i should wait for? And does anyone have any clue how a A64mobile will compare to my powerbook?
