I love the Doctor Who show!
It's been there my whole life.
I'm not thrilled with the current series, but I know eventually it will get good again.
I really wish they'd have The Doctor regenerate as a pretty young woman though.
They could do a lot with that.
Right now it's grumpy old man fighting monsters. Not my style.

Peter Capaldi sucks it. Worst doctor of the new series.

Capaldi's first season was the worst of the new series I've not seen any of his second yet. He is a perfectly fine Doctor. The scriptwriting (and maybe directing) is the problem, not the actor! In fact, his characterization is far more Doctor Who-relevant than anyone since Christopher Eccleston. I liked everyone before him, but his characterization of the Doctor is exactly what the show's legacy was built on.
Yes, it's a different show today compared the the classic series, but it's becoming a one-trick pony with all the glib, glee, cheery silliness of "crazy-ass Doctor" and magic fantasy gadgets. Someone needs to pull a John Nathan Turner and put some actual factual science and gravitas back into the show. Series 8 was abysmally ridiculous. I know the show is fantasy, but good fantasy has rules and limits to its fantastical junk. And, while I adore that this modern show is way more emotionally involved than the classic series, the level has become exhausting and the conflicts contrived. Ratchet it back, already.

I agree with you entirely.Jace-BeOS wrote:Capaldi's first season was the worst of the new series I've not seen any of his second yet. He is a perfectly fine Doctor. The work that Delia Derbyshire went through to make the Dr. Who theme is staggering. Just the background rhythm track involved something like 20 different 12 foot tape loops.
The BBC documentary 'The Alchemists of Sound" has a good outline of the process in it. People complaining that missing features in their host are thwarting their creative processes would do well to give it a look.
Our predecessors had a much harder time of it.
