Any ideas?

Also are PCMIA firewire cards a good idea? for my laptop i have a firewire card which hopefully i wanna use with an external Firewire HD for audio, but ive heard some people say that the PCMIA cards can be funny??

Uninstall what you dont need or want, delete anything else thats data, run a registry cleaner, and do a defrag.

The golden rule indeed is : IF YOU SEE ONE SINGLE ERROR MESSAGE BOX, REFORMAT!!!

lmao!

Why don't you just uninstall simply what's got to be removed and clean the registry gently with any tool able to do so?

But even if you can't clean the registry, till the application that really matters to you work solid, what's the problem? A dirty system can slow down the explorer a bit, menus take a little more time to display, EVENTUALLY, and windows can take a little more time to load too at startup, but no serious affair, it won't influence the way your cpu and ram work once you've loaded your sequencer. If someone tells you the other way, most probably he's unable to figure out how it works and how problems can be solved without the use of the caterpillar again and again.

I suspect the above *golden rule* and similar is only painted iron of a kind of sect : the sect of ppl believing "From Scratch" is a god seeking for respect

muwahahahaha!

I need to clean my registry too.

Are there any freebies out there that you reckon are up to the job? Or is this task one that's best left to commercial software?

Before you uninstall something check driver names ,company names ,use properties to check file info,,then uninstall and go to registry and use that info to do a registry search,,delete the entries,,keep hitting f3 till the entries run out..You won't believe the shit thats left behind.
You can use spyware and reg cleaners, but do the same search after.
I tried a free reg cleaner and used its search ,but some of the search area's were left unticked. When I told it to search every hive,,it found another 50 things.
Freebie vst's are famous for leaving company info in the registry even though the dll is gone.
My audio pc's not on the net but I've worked on some and little start-up progs that get picked up are the worst,,you have to do that full reg search or they will be back once you reboot.
And last,,ya defrag,,but do a boot defrag of your page file,,I found large video files performed way better after doin this...

What's the difference between a normal defrag, and a boot defrag of the page file?

How do I do that?

Normal defrag is done while windows is running. Page file can only be defragged at boot time.

How do I do that?
Diskeeper Pro does it.
