Well, I don't have retrologue 2, but the first version doesn't stand out in any way to me. Parent says "jupiter pads", for jupiter pads, he'll forget all about retrologue and then some. When you want Diva to use less CPU, you just put it in draft mode to remind yourself why you buy better synths in the first place.Ingonator wrote:Depends on what you want to do with it. I already own DIVA, LuSH101, Vacuum Pro, etc etc so Retro 2 just doesn't bring enough bang to justify the bother....
Anyway, after I installed Bazille in my laptop and saw how painless to run it (it's the best looking at synth in my laptop because the screen is FHD with 15.6", so at 130% size, it fits perfect). So, I decided to buy Diva next for those Jupiter pads

I did not say Diva is bad, i just said Retrologue 2 offers some stuff not possible with Diva so it also depends on what you need (mostly in terms of features as sound wise Diva is great anyway).ghettosynth wrote: Well, I don't have retrologue 2, but the first version doesn't stand out in any way to me. FWIW i got my own factory presets in Diva (at "Ingo Weidner" in the "THIRD PARTY" party" folder). There is also got a bunch of Jupiter 8 patches.
To be honest if i would not have Cubase 8.5 i do not know if i would have even bought Retrologue 2 but now that i got it anyway wit hteh Cubase 8.5 upgrade i find it more and more useful while i got a bunch of other great VA synths (including e.g. Diva, Saurus 2, Xils Lab Syn'X 2, Xils Lab Oxium, Xils Lab XILS 4, NI Monark, Arturia Matrix-12V, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Waves Element, PolyAna, TimewARP2600 and some more). Especially the Resonator in Retrologue 2 seems to be really fun so far.

Cool story. I love when people knock stuff when they haven't even tried it. The first version didn't stand out to me either but this update is actually quite good. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy it if I wasn't using Cubase but this is a welcome addition and I'm going to be using it.ghettosynth wrote:Well, I don't have retrologue 2, but the first version doesn't stand out in any way to me. I don't see how they could be comparable anyway. Diva emulates several analog synthesizer, Retrologue doesn't emulate any specific analog synth. Retrologue also has the resonator, and the most sophisticated arp i've ever seen in a synth, both of which is quite unique. So, yeah, there's enough of a difference to not overlap much. I think Steinberg did a good job to enhance Retrologue, and to make the price seem reasonable. What i would have liked to have to upgrade would be more waveforms, stereo spread for the multi oscillators (must have), and maybe some more low pass filter models with a little more pleasing character. Not at all a bad synth though as it is now.
Btw, know i'm gonna get hacked to pieces for it, but IMO Diva is overrated. Kind of hyped like Sylenth1. It's not the do all end all synth. Monark sounds more pleasing in regards of a Minimoog emu IMO. There's just too much of a hype over u-he stuff here.

My comment to parent was with respect to Jupiter pads. I don't need to own the synth to know that it's not going to compare. I own the first one, it's pretty unimpressive. Steinberg's synths, in general, are pretty unimpressive. The observation about CPU, Steinberg's history, and the comments in bold are all enough to confirm my suspicions. If something was even as good as Diva for Jupiter pads it would be worth the $149 upgrade price of Cubase all by itself. I wouldn't even blink.ckam03 wrote:Cool story. But, as all data suggests, it's not even close.

It's really not Uhe, he's just done a good job with the technology. It really is just getting saturated ZDF filters right. I'm all over the new filters in Reaktor.
I think that it's very different from Sylenth, in fact, I don't even know why people like Sylenth. It's just about technology. If you aren't eating up the CPU today, you probably aren't going to please me. If you can please me and not eat up the CPU, then I want to know what you've done with technology that other people aren't able to do.

I didn't say anything about you and Diva, I gave you three factors that confirm my suspicions, one of them was simply that it doesn't impress you (and Ingo) enough to buy it outside of Cubase.ckam03 wrote:No it doesn't confirm your suspicions because I wouldn't even go out of my way to buy Diva. Get over it, it's not going to be as good as Jupiter pads as Diva, and you're just annoyed that I feel confident enough to say that without owning it.

Check Spire. 1/3 of the CPU it was consuming before, and a lot of people are convinced of the sound. Maybe not your typical ZDF whatever analog modelled filter, but really, Dune 2 also uses ZDF and doesn't eat your CPU alive. I think it's a false assumption that something which sounds good has to kill your CPU. Afaik, Diva also uses a lot less CPU than on its initial release, so...ghettosynth wrote:I think that it's very different from Sylenth, in fact, I don't even know why people like Sylenth. Haha whatever. Diva does sound better. I was saying that I wouldn't buy it outside of Cubase because I don't care for vintage analog. I wouldn't buy Diva either. Not annoyed at all. I really don't even know why I joined in.ghettosynth wrote:I didn't say anything about you and Diva, I gave you three factors that confirm my suspicions, one of them was simply that it doesn't impress you (and Ingo) enough to buy it outside of Cubase.ckam03 wrote:No it doesn't confirm your suspicions because I wouldn't even go out of my way to buy Diva. It sounds very good while using little CPU, that is enough for many peopleghettosynth wrote:chk071 wrote:

On Edit: Yes, indeed, it doesn't eat my CPU, that is correct, it's CPU light for sure.

I think a resolution of 5° would have been enough for the osc phase control. Without a display like on Tone2's Electra I doubt anyone hears the difference between, say, 74° and 77°. With a coarser resolution it would in fact be easier to set that phase control right because the ear more easily hears the difference.
Also, when not using the mouse wheel I am already off my monitor when I reach 100° or so.
