Loop slicers - what are my options?

Not even sure if this is technically an 'instrument' or an 'effect'. I'm looking for a plugin that allows you to load in, for example, a drumloop wav sample which is displayed visually, then you can divide it (without damaging the full drumloop) into different playback segments that can be triggered individually via midi keyboard.

I used to open drumloops into an external audio editor and cut different parts out of them, saving them separately (kick, snare, hihat etc), then loading them back into the DAW to play with.

There's got to be some good options out there that make this process quick and efficient.

New Sonic Arts 'Vice' is on my radar, but is quite pricey.

Recommendations?

What DAW are you using? Some will have this capability built in. I'm loving the new workflow with the latest update to Ableton Live. Looking at purely third party plugins, I prefer Geist.

Live 9.5's slicer in sampler is killer. The way slicing should work. Drag and drop and BOOM its done. insert more slices and the keyboard mapping automatically reflects that.

Alternatively shortcircuit does this - but you have to add slices manually, but works similarly and is very powerful once sliced.

Good point! I'm probably overthinking this. I'm using FL Studio 12 which admitedly has a pretty cool sample editor called Edison that allows you to manually cut or auto-detect loop regions which can then be sent as audio clips to the playlist or saved as batches of wav files.

There probably is a way to extend that function to midi mapping.

I just checked our De La Mancha's 'Loophole' VST and couldn't get sound from playback.

Same here, I was trying to get in touch with them before BF to see if they are doing sales.
Disappointing part, I even had no reply at all.

Out of curiosity, some Vice power user out there can give some feedback on working with it ?

Scary thing to me is, I can`t find a standalone vst alternative
(i.e. simplicity, easy to understand and use, straight to the point the work wants to be done).

Tried hard but failed to convince myself purchasing a daw in order to have a handsome loop slicer.

That section turns out to be an involuntary black hole atm.

This looks ugly but sounds good on paper - might give it a whirl...

Sugar Bytes Egoist is my current favorite .. although Geist is pretty great too. So is AIR's Transfuser.

Try Bliss http://www.discodsp.com/bliss/

Can export slices to MIDI too.

FL Studio also comes with SliceX which does exactly what you want, it might be included with your version

Kontakt does this with a few clicks, Falcon does it, HALion does it, they all do it.

Image Line's SliceX is what i'd recommend - cheap, frequently on sale (got it for around 15$ or something), able to drag and drop slices in your DAW and the several ways to automatically MIDI map those slices. Best slicer tool around, imho.

Works standalone, too.

LinPlug RMV. Guess you can still get it for the ridiculously low price of $20.

From the manual:

C = global trigger – this must be pressed / held to activate loophole, otherwise no sound will play. When note is on, the
loop play position (vertical black line) will cycle through the 4 loops in sync with the host tempo. When released, the play
position will remain stopped. Each time the note is pressed, the play position will restart from zero. This note is an on/off
trigger and velocity has no impact.

D, E, F, G = loop trigger – each note triggers the volume on/off for the specific loop, with volume related to the velocity of
the note. At the point the note is pressed, the loop will sound from wherever the global play position is, until the point the
note is released. The triggered section is highlighted on the sample display. Any, none or all 4 notes can be pressed to
create a mix of loop sections.

A = random loop – this works the same way as the loop triggers, except it randomly triggers any one of the four loops.
The note timing, duration and velocity work as for the loop triggers. The random loop trigger can also be pressed at the
same time as any/all of the loop triggers

Did you try his plugin called SLIX. Pretty neat too.
Sound C loud
Band C amp
Clicks and pops is all I get

It seems to be pretty much abandonware at this point, but I really used to love Livelab's LiveSlice. The workflow for slicing samples and mapping it to pads went like this:

Step 1: Select a sample to slice.
Step 2: There is no step two.
