Good question... I can only add: is Retrologue 1 replaced by Retrologue 2 or are both versions installed?

No, version 2 replaces version 1. Steinberg even recommends uninstalling version 1 before installing version 2.

Ok Cool thank you!

I had used the upgrade installer for Cubase 8.5 and it replaced Retrologue 1 with the new version.
For both versions it appears as "Retrologue" in the plugins list.

As Fluffy said Steinberg has clarified the situation.......

The specs on the shop page had to be corrected. Retrologue 2 is as the first version protected by the soft eLicenser. No USB dongle is needed.
The Buy Now page has since been updated. As for Dongles when they give them away for free we'll talk....until then guess where you can stick them ?

An USB2 port at the far side of the moon? Or in the center of a black hole? :)

Since the Retrologue engine is relative to the HALion 5 engine,
should we expect a HALion 6 right around the corner?

I think moving the envelope sustain sliders while keeping the keys pressed should have an effect immediately, i.e. without having to press the keys anew. It works like that on other synths.

It easily distorts on chords, so I have come to set the amp level to -6db by default, that seems to work well.

I've compared Retrologue to Tyrell N6 yesterday a little, as it's kind of the same approach, 2 analog modelling synths, and i must say, it's really deceiving if you fiddled with one synth for a while. Tyrell is much better in any regard really. Especially in the filter department, it's different leagues, Tyrell has a much nicer filter resonance reaction, and much more bang with short filter decay, it's really fun to do those sounds with it. Playing the self resonant filter is great too, sounds very good. It doesn't lose beef either, when closing the filter, something which is present with Retrologue. I definitely prefer both Tyrell and Charlatan tbh. Maybe Steinberg should have overworked the audio engine, and ring in the next generation of analog modelling so to speak. :) It's amazing how good some freeware already is these days.

Indeed, I don't really know what to think of Retrologue's sound, either. With some settings it sounds good, with others not.

I think they have improved the sound a bit insofar as there seems to be less aliasing now. But there is still some noise occasionally.

You can increase the scope of the filter env amount knob via the matrix. But still, those are not my favorite envelopes.

All in all, I think it is an upper middle-class synth in terms of sound quality.

Foumd my copy.of.Retrologue bought it in 2013 but never installed or activated it.. did it all last and got retrologue 2 .... looking forward to trying it out... I must say that I love tyrells sound but am not keen on Charlatan...

Hehe, good job @ getting Retrologue 2 for 49 € then. :)
