Valhalla - take your pick. VintageVerb with a high mix/decay and lots of mod sway for me.

Another vote for Valhalla Vintage Verb. VVV is lightweight enough to run at minimal buffer, 24/96 on my 8-year-old Thinkpad T61, yet sounds really great. Mind you, I have to give the VST Host “realtime” priority, turn off a bunch of Windows services, and not run anything else at the same time except one instance of VVV, but still, that’s lightweight.
In terms of it sound, a Soundcloud is worth a thousand words:

I include all of the parameters for this reverb on the soundcloud page.

I mostly use B2 , it's more than a quality reverb,perfect for ambient .
Valhalla reverbs are also good and affordable (i have UberMod & Shimmer) but you end up buying 2 or 3 of them so it costs the same.

What kind of settings do you use for ambient stuff?gaf_thit wrote:I have gotten some huge ambient-type reverb with the Eventide Ultrareverb

I don't think there is "the best".
But for this big rooms, modulated not too clean/transparent reverbs working better. I would not use Acon, Phoenix or convolution based reverbs. For me it's ValhallaVintage/ValhallaShimmer, sometimes ArtsAcoustic or Eventide Ultraverb.
I have not so much experience with the 2caudio reverbs, I've only demoed Aether and it sounds phantastic but was for me a bit too complicated to use. I cannot remember about B2... maybe this is a mistake and it's _the_ reverb for ambient... so before buying Valhalla I would not forget to demo B2. Simon posted some great audio demos in this thread and only after listening, B2 is my favourite.

Eventide H3000 IRs. There's a preset called Huge Synthspace that is just the ticket.

I got an H9 a month back - there are a number quite different reverb algos on it - blackhole is popular and is maybe the one you heard? I think out of the ITB reverbs I have, the Valhalla ones, Aether, EOS and Arts Acoustic the Valhalla Shimmer is the closest in terms of presets already available. Aether also does huge reverbs but I think a little different - as do VVV and VRoom.

ValhallaShimmer has the closest architecture to Black Hole, as far as the Valhalla plugins go.ChamomileShark wrote:I got an H9 a month back - there are a number quite different reverb algos on it - blackhole is popular and is maybe the one you heard? Since releasing ValhallaShimmer in 2010, I've obtained a few Eventides. Here's what I would suggest for getting a sound closer to Black Hole in Shimmer:
- Start with the Black Hole preset in Shimmer (i.e. mono input reverb mode, no feedback, size set halfway up, no pitch shifting).
- Turn the color mode to Dark.
- Set the Diffusion coefficient at 0.827.
I recently picked up an Eventide Space pedal, but I haven't had the time to plug it in yet (all of my recent efforts have been targeted at the ValhallaPlate release). It will be interesting to compare the Space version of Black Hole to the DSP7000 version.

One cool thing I like with reverb effects pedals is a freeze/hold function. Don't see it implemented in plugins very often.

Is there a preset with this settings in Shimmer? If not, it should be added as the default preset.
