Hey,

I was just wondering whether Muon were considering putting out a Pro version of the SR202. I really like this device and would be quite happy to see it support Multi-velocity layering etc.

I'm happy with it as is, but I was just wondering if anyone was considering building on this to produce a Pro version.

Definately a possibility. We've been considering releasing a drum machine on our own label for a while now (anyone remember Neutron?!).

However, there are a lot of very good drum sample players out there on the market so we'd have to be sure we could make something genuinely different first.....

I don't know about different so much, although that would be nice too.

I think the thing that has always impressed me with Muon is how solid the machines are. They might have a bug or two, but they're fixed promptly and suddenly there is no problem. Workhorse synths for people who need to be able to create music. That's what I like about the SR202 - it's logical and it's dependable. You can't ask for more than that.

Tau Pro still probably heads my list as my most reliable synth and useable synth. I'm constantly trying to find something to knock it off the top, but it just manages to stay there with a smug smile on its face.

It's nice having synths you can experiment for hours with, but sometimes you've just gotta make music and that's what the Tau is for.

How about fixing the current Mac version!

Hey, i think the sr202 is pretty different to begin with, so why not continue to build upon that type of "tweakaholic electronic" drums module paradigm?
Extend the banks of pads by a few octaves,
put in some funky loop points per sample, or a "screen" that can slice beats/riffs and save the resulting samples *across* the pads, and you'd really have something there.
I always thought that with *16* pads the oriogonal sr202 would've been perfect for being able to play each sample over the whole note range on each midi/vst channel, as an option..but obviously its features arent open for revision..

There'd be some kinda market for it because i keep hearing people offer they'd pay just to download the origonal from the CM website.
Just some thoughts..
Btw, ever going to release some new instruments, or are you banking on vsti becoming obselete? (That'll be a long wait!)

How about a "Virtualy Modelled" Acoustic drum synth.
It wouldn`t necessarily have to "model" in real time. You could do the editing and then hit the "Render to Wave" button which would save the file and load it into a pad.

Maybe its not a practical option but it would certainly be different.

Matt:
You'll no doubt have noticed that we're struggling to fix the problems with the Mac version. This is because we're literally coding a workaround for bugs in the users graphics driver! difficult, as you can imagine. Please bear with us!

Exponent:
Loop slicing. Hmmm.....good idea......!

E-Drummer:
If you've been following the articles on synthesising percussion in Sound On Sound these past few months you'll begin to get the idea why this hasn't been yet been done by anyone!

Problem is, a simplified model just wouldn't be convincing enough to be worth doing....and a simplified model in itself would be an impressive technical challenge!

Hope this helps!

Hmmmm. A nice drum synth per pad option, combined with multi-velocity layered sampling. Now that would require a bit of grunt I would think.

Then combine that with some really interesting filtering and ring modulation options to get those zany SFX kits.

Have the pads assignable to different keys - makes it easier if you want a more GM type patch.

Four more mono outputs would be nice.

More advanced pitch shifting so you can (if you like) raise the pitch without shortening the sample. Same with the ability to slow a sample down without decreasing the pitch. Of course keep the simple pitch shifting as well because that's handy on its own too.

Ability to import and export different formats - ie .sf2, LM4 kits etc. would also be great.

Well there you go - a few ideas to play with. These features would easily be enough to put this in a "Pro" league, not that it isn't close to that now.

Personally, now that Ive got DR008, I have all the drum stuff I think I would need for a while. Not that I'll actually stop using SR202 at all, unless the once-rumoured SR202-for-DR008 module turns up...

I shall go bug Angus about this....he's had the file formats for ages!

I have trouble understanding the pictures ,let alone the text.

I hope it will happen one day ,it seems to be possible in hardware with guitars (VG-8) so I suppose its bound to happen in software sooner or later.

A physical modeling drum you say ?

Hmmmmm...

Not a bad idea me thinks
