I dont think in terms like inferior/superior, I'd say that they are by nature, and in results, at least a bit different.( At least : depends of the quality of the emulation actually )Teksonik wrote:No you should find a hardware forum where other elitists who also labor under the misconception that analog is superior hang out........do_androids_dream wrote: I don't even know if I really should be posting in this thread 'coz I'm a grumpy elitist when it comes to analog gear.
To Do_androids_dream: I can see your point. I'm myself fond of my venerable old analog ladies. Hearing you say that StiX is an unit "good at impersonating the analog character" suits me perfectly. ( I would have prefered *unrivaled* of course
Then, StiX can do things that no hw analog drum machine can do afaik. And that no other Drum Machine, whether analog/digital/hybrid/software/hardware etc can do. And it can do them in a fast and intuitive way. So I think/hope a lot of people will have a place for it in their sonic arsenal. Including -maybe- the first one.

The big - important - thing that's usually 'missing' for me when I listen to or try out software drum synths (and I also mean when I use any kind of softsynth to make drums as well as, of course, a drum synth is a just a 'regular' softsynth with specialised parameter controls to a facilitate drum synthesis) is punch and weight - which usually come together - a feeling of '3d' roundness. The only digital software that I feel has this quality are the Nord synths, the Elektron synths and - maybe - FL's Drumaxx which I was impressed by. Although it's not exactly analog sounding it does have 'chunky' attack possible for kicks and snares that cut through mixes without tons of processing necessary.Lotuzia wrote:I dont think in terms like inferior/superior, I'd say that they are by nature, and in results, at least a bit different.( At least : depends of the quality of the emulation actually )Teksonik wrote:No you should find a hardware forum where other elitists who also labor under the misconception that analog is superior hang out........do_androids_dream wrote: I don't even know if I really should be posting in this thread 'coz I'm a grumpy elitist when it comes to analog gear.

That would be my reasoning to. I've never really been impressed by any vst except for Softube's Heartbeat. It sounds really big. The demos on their website don't do it any justice.do_androids_dream wrote: The big - important - thing that's usually 'missing' for me when I listen to or try out software drum synths (and I also mean when I use any kind of softsynth to make drums as well as, of course, a drum synth is a just a 'regular' softsynth with specialised parameter controls to a facilitate drum synthesis) is punch and weight - which usually come together - a feeling of '3d' roundness.
I'd say Xils will do a good job with StiX tho'.

Sounds okay'ish. I still hear the sound of veiled digital filters and overall 'flatness' though.Robmobius wrote:..except for Softube's Heartbeat. It sounds really big.

The thread about 'StiX' just made me realize something.
For years i was snacking these cheese-filled pretzel-sticks called 'xits'.
xits is stix spelled backwards.
It all makes sense now.

When you shut off it's effects it doesn't really sound that special to me. Frankly, xoxos' Bong sounds better to me. Check it out, it's really good and cheap.do_androids_dream wrote:Sounds okay'ish. I'm no analog purest, but I bet if it comes out of Xils, it will sound really good. Will it replace your favourite hardware analog drumsynth? Probably not, but if you like the flexibility of software it will be a cool tool.

Absolutely agree... Heartbeat does need the FX - Which are great, especially the saturation. But without them it wouldn't be half as good. So, after it goes through the grinder so to speak it sounds pretty good.zerocrossing wrote:When you shut off it's effects it doesn't really sound that special to me. I think Xils will nail it with StiX.

I dont think so. Most people -in this thread- said it sounded superb, based only on a few audio clips that's true. More soon. One poster said he prefered HW analog drum machines. Wich is perfectly his right.Numanoid wrote:Could StiX be the new Bitwig-pre-release-drama-type-thingie?
One thing about StiX : It has a sequencer, and there are DEEP, and neverseen, interactions between the Sequencer and the Synthesis Engines. More than that, Stix Sequencer is unique.
As for the *analog character* , well, people will try, hear, and make their own opinions. I'm not worried the least about that.

To be honest the demos are not sounding anything special for me (beside the "simple drumpad" ones maybe...) - but I'm very interested in the sequencing part of StiX. Will it output MIDI?

Shame. But nonetheless it still sounds like an interesting alternative to other drum sequencers (I'm using Breaktweaker now)...ere2learn wrote:Noszalonykp wrote:Will it output MIDI?
