Anyone know of any software (or failing that, hardware) that's specifically designed to translate vocals into MIDI in real time? I've been using Jam Origin's MIDIguitar, but obviously that's made for guitar and it's far from perfect with vocals.

I've been meaning to test this with Ableton Live's "convert melody to MIDI" feature. I thought if I could record myself singing a melody, I might be able to convert it to MIDI and then add some improvisation and variation.
Is this what you had in mind?

You might want to check out Imitone. It was a very successful and hyped Kickstarter. The dev recently got a lot of flak here for screwing around and not delivering on his promises. He may still come through. I supported it on KS, but haven't installed the latest beta, so can't speak to its current usefulness.
Here's the KVR thread, which should contain the links you may need to explore further. Good luck!
