Musicians friend is selling the violin bass copy for 199 (down from 399) and I was thinking of snatching it up. The reviews on the site are good, but can you really trust those? anyway, you know anyone that has one? how is it?

Hey S_A_P,
Just curious: have you ever played an original Hofner?
I've long had access to one. Curious if your impressions are the same as mine....

Dont. The damn thing warps.... badly made
If you're the kind of guy who can make music with anything, doesnt matter... but it falls apart.
Ive owned one and I know 2 other people who have as well. one of which who's neck even broke under tension of strings.
As for sound... blech too. very midrangy, dead and fairly a bear to play.
check out rondomusic.com for some similiar "ripoffs" that are made a little better... still a bit shoddy, but they wont fall apart on you!

I have seen one once, played it for a few minutes, I liked the feel of it it was a '65, but not the 9500 dollar price tag.MickGael wrote:Hey S_A_P,

well I went and looked into the rogue bass and was not that impressed- I did however find an epiphone EB-0 bass
for 199- Its not all that full featured, and the image above doesnt do it justice. It has a great meaty bottom end, and the neck feels great. though I am not much of a bass player, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget bass.

It's going to be either that or a Jazz Bass for me, then.
