Yeah, yeah, I know this should be in Hosts, but I deliberately put it here because this is the forum that most people go to first.

July 31st there will be no more upgrade path from older Cubase VSTx.x to SX. I posted some questions in Hosts (as I'm about to finally upgrade everything) and TTOZ gave me the heads-up (thanks mate  ) I very nearly missed the boat. In future if you want to go from VST to SX you'll have to buy from new i.e full price.

So if anyone is thinking about an upgrade, then get your arse down to a local dealer pronto and save yourself a few hundred - you've got 2 days left! :-o
In $NZ the difference between an upgrade is $530-$550 for the upgrade as opposed to around $1700 for a new SX. :?

I'm so f***in' relieved I found out in time. Don't get caught out, like me, because you're a slack f**ker who never visits places like Cubase.net

KvR saves the day again. with the $1200 I've just saved, I can buy some other shiney new plugins he he he.
Seriously, this ain't a wind up - it's an official Steinberg announcement at their site.

I know, I know.....I should have upgraded ages ago, but who wants to buy a new product when it's still in beta (as in SX1 was)?

And the good news is that Steinbug have announced that they're going to announce something after July31st - which probably means SX3'll be out soon.

Ok.....now you can move me to hosts, sorry.

arbiter in the UK say it s your last chance to upgradfe to sx 2 - they say there MAY (?) be upgrades to future products

Yeah, I heard a few rumours there may be future upgrade options, but I suspect it'll be something more like upgrade from VST -> some kind of SX lite or SL type thing, and then you'd have to pay again to upgrade to the true SX. It sounds very much like Steiny are cutting their links from VST onwards to anything resembling the flagship products. And if you can upgrade to SX in the future, I'm sure it won't be at the price point you get now.

Of course my cynical mind nags me that it could be a marketing ploy by Steinbugger to kickstart a few more people to spend money on the upgrade to boost their cashflow, but in the past they don't seem to have got involved in that type of thing. In fact they almost showed a kind of detatchment from things economic and skullduggery-like. Personally I didn't want to take the risk....too expensive if it turns out that they won't let you upgrade in the future. And happy though I am (on the whole) with VST, I'm not sure I want to be faced with the option of either remaining on VST forever with all the incompatabilities that incurs, or considering changing hosts to a cheaper one when the time comes....to hard by far.

Someone once described their switch to another package as getting off the train...Steinberg are fully aware of all the fanfare around Live 4 even if SX2 has more features but a slower workflow.

Steinberg know that they have to do something so they announce this end of July upgrade ultimatum to try an get as many VST users on the Cubase SX train.

Fair enough but the timing is no coincidence...no way.Cakewalk have a discount offer running until the end of this month for Sonar 3 Producer.

Of course companies provide special offers all the time but I knew there would be a few of these coming up at the same time as Live 4's release. It would appear that Ableton decided to make Live 4 available before the end of the month anyway...maybe to get a headstart on the competition.

Note that the deadline is for production of the upgrades, not sale. The upgrades should be available from dealers for a while yet, though probably not more than a few weeks depending on demand.

I had my fair share of headaches with SX1 as it went through it's year of growing pains. I was one of those early adopting beta testers for their new platform, but with SX2 I think they really solidified it. They addressed nearly every complaint I had with 1.x and I haven't experienced any stability issues at all. Perhaps there is still time for Steinbug to establish a reputation for stability and reliability.

True, true.....but in my neck of the woods there was none in my city, and only 2 that I could discover in Auckland, although there are hopefully more lurking around. So if I hadn't nabbed one now, it'd be likely I couldn't at all in the future - can't see imports from other countries happening when they're expecting to sell out. :?

ok, I'm frantic and I'm just about to leave for work.
can't find the upgrade that used to be at the steinbergusa web site.

I'm not sure you can do the upgrade via the Steinbrigade site. I looked in there and it appeared to me (although I rarely go to their site, if ever, so it could be just me being dumb  ) that the upgrades on the net are just from VST5.0->5.1 or SX2.0->SX2.2 etc .....i.e. within the same version. To go from VST up to SX I think you have to do it from an authorised dealer. But as mentioned earlier...it's only Steinbaguette that are not making or releasing any more upgrade packages. You probably can still get one after the 31st if there's one in stock (I think)

When I went yesterday to put money down on mine to make sure I had one confirmed before the 31st, the dealer implied that I could have got one afterwards if it was stocked, so you should hopefully still have time left? And if there are none locally, then do some searches on the net - many of the big shops will ship worldwide - I know a few in the UK that do, and here locally, I can get stuff shipped in from Australia if I have to.

Get on the net as soon as you get to work........that's what work's for innit?
