This doesn't actually make any sense. I really see no argument as to what is better for the customer, preorder VS introductory price available after the release for a week or so? The fact is UVI had an easier time introducing Falcon, a product they 'took back' from MOTU, forgetting to offer an upgrade price, then doing so late in the game... mostly because information was available on the product from end users. This is marketing, UVI while not great at it did OK, NI always do OK, and IK? you guys always get blasted on here, because your pricing schemes are so awkward. For instance after the preorder does my upgrade price of $199 go away? Does it become $299-$399 full price?? For me personally I'm less likely to buy if the process isn't laid out.

Let me be clear here, I'm not arguing that $199 is a bad deal, how could I? I'm saying that it should IMO carry into the release a bit, for your own companies sake, it's just bad marketing otherwise.
I just want to chime in as another voice who agrees with this point. Since I qualify for the $199 pre-order upgrade deal, it's almost tempting. But since I already have Mirsoslav Philharmonik (and like it), it's not at all clear to me whether the upgrade to 2 is worth it, and until it's been released into the wild and becomes a known commodity, there's no way to tell. At that point if I do wish to purchase it will presumably be more expensive.

It seems like IKM is asking us to gamble, and rewarding us for being willing to commit while blindfolded. Thanks but no thanks. If, after release, I do decide that this upgrade is worth it, I'll either wait for a sale or buy something similar from a competitor. This feels just a wee bit too manipulative for my taste. Just my 2p.

I had a quick listen to the string demos and thought they sounded very artificial and flat. A bit midi-ish to be honest.

I was expecting a lot better these days as the East West stuff even 10 years ago sounded lush, expressive and organic in comparison.

Wanted to like it but sadly didn't.

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

EW QL Gold is on 50% off at less than 220 euros this holiday season. i know what I'd go for!

same for me, demos just turned me off. you can clearly hear the swelling (attack/release envelopes) everywhere. brass demos are the worst offender in this department. i'll pass on Miroslav 2 as well.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

1. the Demos are not good
2. the Price is not adequate - even the update price
3. I'm happy with original Miro & the outtakes.
4. where is Peter, that guy that scares off potential customers here in this Forum?
5. selling nowadays an orchestral library without real legato is not the actual technical status - unless it's a very Special library like e.g. evo grid from spitfire.

If preorder doesn't make sense to you (it works for some, not for others when done for other software - we're certainly not the only ones nor the only industry to do this) so be it. You have the option to upgrade at the pricing - to answer the incorrect point that it isn't laid out for you - which is stated at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/philharmonik2/ with the planned release date and preorder pricing reiterated here for a proper timeline: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/news.php?id=621

There are many articulations including legato and if you want to wait to see how they are, again you are welcome to wait but the price paid will be higher for you and that is most certainly your prerogative. This is a phenomenal new version of a classic library, recorded by the master himself, and I hope many of you and people in general enjoy making great and expressive music with it when it is out.

Very well stated.
I'm in the same situation, as I'm sure many others are.
I don't really "need" serious strings for what I do, though I do own a few top tier string products. Overall, they are an occasional sweetener for my music. And, frankly, much of the time I find that an interesting synth pad can fill in quite nicely and add a modern touch.

But I've always liked Miro. And since I REALLY like Sampletank 3, I would guess that filling it out with the Miro 2 addon would be a good update. The past few IK releases have garnered enough good will with me to possibly take a flyer on the pre-order. But Quasar really does identify the issue with IK's marketing that threatens even the most loyal of IK fans.

OTOH, IK does try to mitigate this with the gift of jampoints for current users. This, combined with some smart gear point purchases can bring the upgrade price down considerably. But that requires a lot of plotting and scheming on the customers' part and I'm sure many will fall by the wayside before completing the necessary math.

Can you use the st 3 stretch engine with Miro 2?

Post

The samples sound amazing.

After seeing this video of Dream Theatre I really want some decent strings in my tracks. Orchestra + rock is so emotional and powerful. It will have to wait though I need to try sell some plugs so I can get Amplitube 4 in time for Christmas. Got to figure out how to gift wrap downloads.

@15:30 is made out of pure win.

I was against upgrading a couple of weeks ago, but after finishing two instrumental songs both heavily reliant on woodwinds from Phil1, I couldn't resist preordering Phil2.

The truth is, while the engine is not the most technically sophisticated (it may, perhaps, be the least technically sophisticated), the dynamic nature of the sounds in ST3 and Phil1 is what makes them so compelling. If you have either one handy, load up the solo English Horn (sustain) and hold down any note and you'll see what I mean. Now try the same in EWQL or any other library in this price range. You can actually build expressive melodic lines, even solos with these sounds. And with some clever processing and EQ automation, you can even add pretty believable swells.

I have EWQL gold as well, and it's got a far greater wealth of articulations. Most of the time, though, I find, a dynamic sustain is far more valuable than 20 different articulations. Most of the "cool" articulations get old after one or two uses anyway.

I think for a lot of people, orchestral samples are more about "textures" than "lines" - some previous posters alluded to this. And for them, Phil1 or Phil2 may not be the best thing available. For "lines", though, Phil1 is a very strong contender, IMHO.

I get some weird harmonic distortion when using the oboe and english horn.
especially when playing choeds and playing the m together. I'll try again in st3.
