Well, I tested it now for an hour and I cannot agree. It makes a lot of trouble in my Reaper 5, WinXP32 :x
- the filter allways sounds like there is a certain amount of resonance.
- the time characteristic of decay and relayse seems to be linear instead of exp. Terrible and unrealsitic fades
- I allways get clicking noise. Especially when I play polyphonic. No matter how slow the attack is.
- When I use the sustain pedal, I got stolen notes.
- No pitch bending and no modulation wheel
- the Fattener is making no sense. It is a very fast modulation, which only works on every second note you play.

For me this version seems not to be ready for any usage. :uhuhuh:
Why does none of this surprise me?

The reason why I've deleted all his previous synths from my PC as they were all half baked, poorly executed ideas with, unfortunately, lots of potential.

If this is chosen, I will be passing on it as I did his other synths.

When will people stop using Synthedit?

Some of the sounds are really good sounds, some of the presets are perfect for something I'd create from scratch myself and I'd use straight away, which almost never happens. After playing a little bit more, some sounds are quite metallic and flat sounding, but others are the exact opposite. It's not a synth with nothing but sweet spots, but if you find them, they are quite impressive indeed. Shame its windows only and 32 bit though.

Hanz Meyzer wrote:People,

I would really appreciate if January's synth could be cross-platform again. Yes, there are plenty of nice Win-only synths, but I think this about to be a fair and joyful competition. There are also lot of cross-platform synths. So synthmaker vstis should not be come into selection, really. Not the whole world is Windows.

Thank you.
Sure no problem Hanz ....just gotta find 'em  Make you suggestions here of course but I think most people (if not all) that participate in OSC feel it's more fun when everyone can join in.

Finding semi-stable freeware cross-platform is the PITA for Brian if I am not mistaken. Occasionally I go looking and the options seem quite limited. :(

This is unfortunately true. Most of the free synths that I've found are Windows only and Synthedit and/or 32 bit at that which makes my life a living hell as well. The current OSC I just threw anything together because I was getting Aux host errors trying to run the darn thing. Not fun.

Has there been a One-Synth-Challenge with a super simple subtractive synth? For the obvious reasons, most synths I've seen used so far are super capable with tons of onboard effects. It would be fun to see people really push the creativity and layering with a monosynth or something super specialized. I'd like to see more months like OSC 4 or 65.

Or a synth made specifically for the competition. One osc, one filter, one envelope, moderate modulation options.

There's nothing wrong with Synthedit. It's not the program's fault for being the easiest way to make a VST. And there are plenty of unstable poor-sounding synths that were hand-coded.

Oberon8 for instance is a Synthedit VST from 2002 that still sounds remarkable.

oh wait... there's a site that lists them all out. ;)

Not one osc, but simple VA without effects. Charlatan stands out to me as a very smooth and analogue sounding VA.

A couple people from OSC have worked a bit on synths... Taron sounds like he'll be first to bring one to market.. but not a simple thing like you're thinking about.

Except it's Windows only and there are often severe stability problems with multiple instances of the synths being loaded - the latter is a particular problem for OSC, as you might imagine. Agreed there are plenty of crappy, unstable "handcoded" synths, too. :)

Fluorescent Sky v2
My entry from OSC 24, featuring the RMXL synth, has been remixed and improved.

v2 can be heard at my soundcloud below (the OSC 24 archive still plays the original). Enjoy!

I was thinking simpler than that, save for TAL Bassline.

I also think it would be cool to use a synth that's still capable but more specialized. Like a cylindrical drum physical modeller. There hasn't been a comp like that, save for Mr. Alias.

Idunno. After 82 OSCs which have been mostly middle-complexity subtractive or hybrid synths, I think we could mix it up a little :)

When will people stop using Synthedit?
And when will 'people' learn to tell the difference between Synthedit and Flowstone/Synthmaker - which this and his other synths clearly are?

With Synthedit Win64/Mac/VST3 in development - and some of its cross-platform exports already starting to appear - it's likely to be resurgent, and to remain the development environment of choice for a whole new generation of modular synth enthusiasts and creative musician-developers alike.
None of the really dumb people I knew when I was young are young any more.

Until Synthedit 64 bit is out of development, we're still stuck with 32 bit "crash my DAW" crap. So development does nothing for my current situation with Synthedit synths being used for the OSC.

Looks like there have been lots of changes/fixes in the past few months. Worth a retest, at least. :)
