Hello,

Im wanting to build up a small and simple hardware setup.
Drum machine, couple of synths, sampler and a couple of effects.
I was thinking a setup a long the lines of some of the mfb products.
What would you guys suggest for starting out? I dont really want any big keyboard synths
I would be running them through ableton as well.

Cheers

What's the budget?

What do you want the hardware for? would it be live jamming, recording into Live only? Integrating with plugins in real time?

Budget wise isn't really that much of an issue but open for suggestions on both ends of the spectrum.
I'd be wanting it for jamming and recording/producing into live

If budget truly isn't an issue the best bet (imo) is to get an Analog Rtym and Analog 4. Both will integrate with each other and your DAW and work as jamming machines and open as plugins in Ableton Live. You could also add an Octatrack (sampler) but that doesn't have the Overbridge DAW integration in this version of the hardware.

On the more budget side I'd look at the Roland Aira range and start with a TR-8 and System 1, maybe grabbing an older MPC to handle the sampling duty. The MPC 1000 is good value. The MPC's act as good hubs for sequencing too as they have tight midi timing and multiple midi outs.

MFB Tanzbar looks great. I have RTM & Octatrack, which are excellent, but far from simple. Synthwise, I like Doepfer Dark Energy and Arturia Microbrute (amongst smaller analog units) ...

... and of course, everyone should have a Monotron Delay ;)
