Dune 2 has improved oscillators, improved unison, improved filters, a more comprehensive voice architecture, improved mod matrix, and and and. The sound is quite different too, although they sort of share the same character. And there's something odd going on in the high frequencies with Dune 1 anyway, you can see that when using a spectrometer. That's probably why some people always criticized a certain lack of high end on Dune 1. As far as i could see, that's not present in Dune 2 anymore. Don't quite dig the sound though personally.zlatan wrote:What makes Dune 1 so different ?bftucker wrote: Dune 1 is a great but quite different synth and there are many free patches for it scattered around
Just curious ... I stopped using Dune 1 after Dune 2 came out.
DUNE 2 is out now!!

Yes. It is beautiful, perfect for an incredible synth like DUNE 2.HcDoom wrote:Wow, soundflower looks very classy and wonderful, my default skin from now on. Top notch!!!
I think Lance Thackeray (Serum GUI artist) has also been working in a DUNE 2 skin (though, he's been for quite a while now..): http://pureav.deviantart.com/art/DUNE-2 ... -535276697

Those keys look lovely, very much like the Kontrol S-series indeed. Would be great to have a Dune 2 skin by this guy, I really like his work on Serum.Yorrrrrr wrote:Yes. The sale lasts until Jan-10, 2016.pheeleep wrote:For someone that does not own Dune 1, it is more advantageous to buy Dune 1 and then upgrade to Dune 2. It's only $9 more doing it that way ($108 total), but it's well worth having Dune 1 for only $9 more. I love Dune 1. I don't have Dune 2. I wasn't going to get anything more this year, but $49 to upgrade to Dune 2 with 750 presets, the added features, etc.. makes it very hard to resist. I wonder how long the sale goes.
Note the $49 upgrade offer is only for existing DUNE 1 customers (and requires login), we have added a note to the shop page to make this more clear

But if someone buys Dune 1 right now, can they not register it and then upgrade to Dune 2, paying a total of $108? I will edit my comments made above if this is incorrect, but I am not 100% sure what you mean. Thanks for providing the deadline of the sale. All the best.

Technically i either don't need to change the colors and very likely, the factory skins are very well conceived in the way it doesn't distract the sound designerEnGee wrote:Well, we have different tastesKrakatau wrote:I', for one, think that the colors in Dune 2 are ugly ...but no negative influence in workflow, that all what counts at leastEnGee wrote:HcDoom wrote:The GUI colour variations is very nice indeed. it's very well done IMO
As far as i remember, it was the same issue with absynth5 when released, the GUI isn't much esthetic for some compared to the preceding one, but at least more easy to understand
So no worries...

It turns out I was wrong and that you have to have owned Dune 1 prior to this sale. I have edited my comments in my post (and I just updated to Dune2 myself using my years old Dune 1 licensebftucker wrote:Good suggestion...I agree that anyone buying Dune2 should do it this way. I have both Dune 1 + 2 and don't see a reason to use Dune 1 anymore.
So my question was what's so different/nice about Dune 1 that one still would like to use it ?

I think I understand what you mean. The previous version has some special feeling to it, like in Absynth 1 or 2.Krakatau wrote:Technically i either don't need to change the colors and very likely, the factory skins are very well conceived in the way it doesn't distract the sound designerEnGee wrote:Well, we have different tastesKrakatau wrote:I', for one, think that the colors in Dune 2 are ugly ...but no negative influence in workflow, that all what counts at leastEnGee wrote:HcDoom wrote:The GUI colour variations is very nice indeed. Well, I like Dune 2 and I feel it like a sedan Japanese car. Comfortable and practical, nothing fancy or 'special' in design, but this simple (or conservative) approach is also beautiful IMO.
Oh well, glad that it is skinnable, so users have a choice
Ok, back to the manual that I started reading it yesterday. The thing is Dune 2 is much more than I expected! The possibilities for sound design are a lot. I was comparing just little bit between Dune 2 and Synthmaster (quality set to best) yesterday. They are very near in their approach, I couldn't say definitely which one is better sounding for me. The cpu usage also depends on presets. Anyway, I think I slightly prefer Dune 2, but I need to spend more time with both to see. Both synths are great synths IMO, and I'm glad to have them

I think the design of Dune2 is very unique. There are not so many synth with a similar layering/unison feature like Dune2.
The GUI design/colors are of course a matter of taste. I use the default gray color theme and I like it. I've also tested this Sandflower theme.. yes, it looks nice and it's different but I'm happy with the default theme.
For me is Dune2 some of this desert island synth.
