I had major problems with it on my system trying to get to run with stability and low latency. I prefer the Echo Indigo. If you do a bit of digging, you will see that experiences with the US-122 are mixed, but experiences with Indigo are almost universally positive.

My US-122 liked to argue with just about every other USB appliance in a 500yard radius. On it's own it was fine (and v robust - like a brick!

), and has phantom power/XLR inputs, something I now miss on the Indigo - this also made it excellent for field recording (and the MIDI is similarly invaluable).
Indigo's works a treat however - the DJ and IO haven't given me a single cause for gripe (except for the XLR/phantom thing

).

Guess it depends on your application - dedicated recording vs playback/mixing.

Bsods... winme.. win98? I think I could take a gander at why you're having problems....

Ive made xp and 2K bsod... but its always been ram problems..

I have it and have had 0 problems with it. Just make sure to snag the latest drivers off of the website..and its good to go. VERY low latency (even on my most lowend system..a p3 800 mhz with 512 ram)..a few audio cracks here and there..but easily work aroundable...and its pretty cheap considering its features (the phantom power is definatly a nice touch)

On Mac OS X here,
very fine, inserts on inputs are fine addiction, also MIDI. What i miss is second independent stereo output, but for USB card it is enough. Latency is pretty low with OS X core-audio driver. Sound quality is perfect for home/portable use.

the only problem i have with this excellent piece of gear:

because of some ASIO driver shit, i can't use it with FL Studio properly. Works fine with Sonar, Reason and standalone applications, though.

Very mixed experiences with a similar device, the Tascam US-224 (basically has the same chipset and drivers).

It worked fine on a PIII-550 (with a horrible i810 shared memory graphics chip). Stable and low-latency, although it ate a fair bit of CPU. On my Athlon XP1800 (SiS 626 chipset -K7S5A cheapo motherboard) it constantly produced crackles, pops and timing errors. I even bought a separate Keyspan PCI<->USB adapter to no avail. Same story on my old Athlon-based HP Compaq Laptop (Presario 900 - happily now sold). Didn't even work at all with the onboard USB (but this seemed to be more a feature of the laptop, as neither did the MIDIman MidiSport). I had to buy a PC Card<->USB adapter, with which the US-224 performance was equally dismal. Then again, the laptop did have shared memory graphics and was a fairly new chipset design (Radeon IGP), as was the K7S5A. Maybe the problems I had were due to PCI bandwidth issues or other shortcomings of those motherboards. And yes, it did occasionally bluescreen, on both XP and 2K.

I'd say get RELIABLE reports about how other people with the same motherboard chipset have fared with it, especially if you're using AMD (although I think to a large extent the AMD chipset makers have cleaned up their act).

US-122 Tascam, is it good ?
