I'm a bit confused about the UVI product line.

Is UVI workstation a free version of Machfive in which you cannot make your own instruments? Is UVI workstation worth having at all if you own either Machfive or Falcon or would it be redundant?

Is Falcon like a swiss army knife version of UVI workstation or a Swiss army knife version of Machfive?

I'm attracted to UVI as a company for some reason (maybe Dan Worrall's demos), but since there are no user demos for Falcon It's hard to pull the trigger.

Also, are licenses transferable? I didn't find info on that at the FAQ. Maybe there's a page for that somewhere on the site. I'm obsessed with loads of things in the world so I can't always go in depth on any one thing unless I get hooked for some reason. (maybe when I sell my hardware vintage stuff) But I will continue to keep an eye on UVI!

UVIWorkstation is a free player which allows to read UVI powered soundbanks and features a minimal user samples playback.

Falcon and MachFive are full featured sampler/synth based on the UVI engine and allows as well to read UVI powered soundbanks.
Falcon uses the latest version of the engine while MachFive don't.
Falcon is a UVI product, MachFive is a MOTU product.

Falcon license are transferable but requires our approbation.

Hope this clarify things.

I think he means that you can't demo the synth first before buying it.

Some people don't express themselves clearly.

Oh, I see.

to the comedians:

Falcon is a piece of software.

what is an User Demo of a piece of software? Has this changed in 40 years?

There is no other way of expressing in either English or industry jargon what a software User Demo is.

A user demo can be taken to mean two different things.

1) A demo track containing music made with Falcon in order to show off what it can do and what it sounds like.

2) An actual download of the software for the eventual end user to try out to see if the synth is something that they want.

As there is obviously plenty of sound bites available online to listen to (even if you just go to the UVI site) you'd have to logically assume that the OP was referring to the latter.

But of course we can argue over this for 100 pages as well.

To the humorless:
you did not write “software User Demo“, you wrote - “...but since there are no user demos for Falcon It's hard to pull the trigger.“ - thus the misunderstanding and now the hairsplitting.

UVI FALCON now only $149 for MachFive 3 owners (save an extra $30)!

"This Christmas save $30 off purchases of $99 or more!
Simply enter the voucher code HOLIDAYS when checking out".

Also applies to the $179 special price for MachFive 3 owners, plus you'll get a $100 voucher!

I've just ordered for $149 :D.

Fantastic deal, considering the $100 deal. :D

To: Overhishead... Mach5 is a dead piece of crap, from where I sit. Motu has done NOTHING to keep it up and it doesn't even play the latest libraries for either UVI's player or Falcon. :x

Falcon  is what I assumed Mach5 would have evolved into when I wasted my money on Mach5... oh well, at least I got a discount on Falcon and was able to import all my sounds to Falcon! :P

Falcon is Power. It's the future... if you haven't heard the Bohemian Violin sneak peaks... developed within Falcon... you should...

I have much more faith that UVI will support and evolve Falcon...it's their baby!

BTW, there are lots of examples of Falcon... have you heard of Google? Youtube? you'll find a number of walkthrus by first look buyers and a smattering of very nice YT's by users giving advice and walking you thru the process...

I'll be snarky... is this overyourhead? :hyper:

Actually the Bohemian Violin might be a bit of a mis-lead. Although it was designed with Falcon it will also work in the free UVI workstation, and uses custom samples and legato scripting that will not be readily available to falcon costumers without sampling and scripting themselves, which is a huge undertaking unrelated to programming a synth. Perhaps references should be kept to presets of the instrument or sounds that can be easily made with the provided interface. Cheers :)

As a long time MachFive user I finally cross-graded to Falcon yesterday. Feel quite at home with it even tho it's considerably deeper than M5 v3. Took me a while to get a hold of the tree structure and still haven't 100 % figured it out. It's a really really deep synth.

I like the fact that you can change modules on the run. If you want to change the filter type for example, you can just click-hold and change it, not even breaking the modulation connections.

The gui is slightly laggy with Studio One v3.1 Mac. It lags the S1 gui also when open.

A few questions to those who have already spent time with this:
- can I get lfo modulation to retrigger for arp sequences? i seem to be able to only have it totally free running or retriggering for each arp note.. would be great to have consistent lfo over an arp sequence
- can you change which modulation is visualized around a knob? (the purple circle) it only seems to show the first in tree, even if you are editing a different modulation source

Cheers

Use Legato trigger for LFO and increase the arp step length to be a bit over 100% and voila !

The purple circle just underline that there is one or many modulation.
The little dot in it show the actual knob value which combined all modulation source.

Hope this helps

Thanks, the legato + arp length does seem to work. Is that a documented feature or did you figure it out yourself?

The modulation visual seems to work that way also. I had an envelope and a lfo assigned to filter and thought it was just showing the envelope, but the lfo seems to be there too.

Thanks
