That would be kind of like sticking your fingers in your ears and going "lalalala it didn't happen" while it does not change the reality. The same kind of stupid like when the US Gov prohibited their employees reading about documents leaked to Wikileaks on the net while all the major publications continued to publish them every day. It's pretty easy for anyone to find out regardless.

That's your opinion.

Yes, the info file was credible. It accompanied one of the cracked versions of Cubase.
This isn't the only place it was discussed.I only mentioned it was posted here so that anyone interested could search for it.

Aye, was something like that. was never a Cubase SX user but I remember all the kerfuffle it caused.

Why would you care how much something costs when your buying with stolen credit cards ?

Actually maybe it was Urs. He had some negative things to say about PACE and AAX in this very same thread. And I'm sure that now he could sell his own copy protection with even heftier price tag than PACE. :hihi:
If this is a joke, i don't think it's appropriate, especially given the current circumstances. U-he would'nt sink that low.
I'm pretty sure u-he gives their copy protection scheme away for free to other devs. Or, that's at least what I remember reading at some point.

Unfortunately, all copy protection can be cracked. No copy protection is immune if the hackers are willing to spend the time and effort.
Yep. All we do though is give away some ideas with a few surprising elements. People then have to implement their own scheme, hopefully based on those ideas. It's like a cookbook. That is part of the strategy: The more different (but indeterminably strong) protections there are, the less likely a landslide release like this one, the better off the industry.

And no, we don't make any money from it. That would be counterproductive and I'd hate myself.

Btw. one needs to be cracked in order to make a good copy protection.

So, how are you going to react to the fact that all your plugins have been cracked recently? Write a new cookbook?

Firstly, you didn't read my post properly. Getting cracked is part of the strategy. That's also described in the cookbook.

Secondly, the cracks are remarkably good. They used an angle that I hadn't thought of, but they didn't fully remove the copy protection. It takes a bit longer to set off and it doesn't let us track busts, but we've seen promising posts on forums.

Plus, we've analysed the new angle and it took me 2 hours to take it out. They'll need a few months to figure this out, and they need a completely new angle - which brings us back to point 1: Copy protection is an iterative process.

You definitely got a point here.

Though I do remember (from beta forum talk) that one "group" is actually buying the stuff, then cracking it. And if they're successful, also distributing it. So cracking code is definitely both a challenge and a sport to these people (and as Urs just commented on, it can even be very beneficial!). Just like finding flaws in other security systems (at least over here in the Central EU - the RFID "exploits" and "backdoors" come to mind - the old Chaos Computer Club made people aware of this).

I've never experienced the "time bomb" myself as legit U-HE user. But I've seen screenshots and read a lot of stories about it. Melted GUI, random changed parameters, internal "detuning", etc. Urs wrote several lengthy post about this many months ago in his own sub-forum.

Some of these comments were even hilarious to read.
