What is the best way to go about creating a sample set of an instrument? A few months ago, I sampled 4 different pianos (a Steinway "Duo-Art" grand, a Everett upright, a Acrosonic upright, and a Kawai semi-concert "baby grand") with the intention of creating sample sets to use in Logic Pro X. Now that I have some free-time, I'd like to turn these into nice lightweight and character-filled piano set to throw around in mixes and possibly even share. What are good formats/programs for creating sets? I'm thinking possibly a VST, EXS24, or soundfont?
For technical info, I recorded 3 or 4 velocity layers, at about 4 notes per octave (hard, medium, soft, and una corda, in minor thirds), using my bare hands and a Yeti USB stereo mic positioned above middle C, pointed towards the hammers/strings, saved as uncompressed WAV files. Fairly spartan, I know, but I'm but one person and not seeking perfection. I consider myself fairly tech-savvy and not afraid of doing some coding or learning new things.

If you already have Logic Pro then definitely go for the EXS24 format. Kontakt is another format, it is probably the biggest sample format at the moment.
Despite I think sound fonts are great I wouldn't go for it. Not enough users of the format although fl studio users seem to rely on it now and then
Btw: We have a sub forum about sampling
Also: there is a program called translator by chicken systems. Translates every sample format into another one

You don't mention what DAW you're using, but Ableton Live's Sampler would make quick work of that. And Sampler instruments can be imported into Simpler if you want to pass it on to friends who don't have Live Suite.
If you're looking for a more DAW-agnostic solution, there's always Kontakt or UVI Workstation.
