Looks interesting, as I'm a big fan of Synplant's structure, though Biotek has modulation. My problem is that the video shows very little of what the plugin actually does, and since I don't see a demo version there's no way for me to test it. Since they don't offer refunds, I'll pass for now.

I disagree. I think it sounds fantastic. Unfortunately, like others have said, no demo or refund without detailed description of how it works make it a no-go.TheoM wrote:hmm something "un special" or "flat" about the sound in the demo video.. not my cup of tea certainly not at 150. Just an initial quick first thought though, nothing more.

For the little I could understand, this is a 4 Osc synth that can be arranged in FM routing, which means you may use them as carrier/modulator pairs, 1 osc to modulate three others, eventually feedback Osc, etc. besides this, all Oscs can use more several single period waves and also samples (sample maps/wavetables? - These are details not cleared). There are also filters, of course, and very complex multi-segment envelopes. The now almost obligatory modulation matrix helps manage all the complexity.
Using FM with sample, though, may be very creative but also very difficult to control. I was used to that in the SY99/TG77, where I could route an AWM element (which could a PCM oscillator based on samples, or even user sample maps) to one of the oscillators of an FM element, in which was called by Yamaha RCM (Realtime Convolution and Modulation). Not exactly the same thing, but close enough to have an idea.

I thought I'd treat myself to the plugin and bought it. It's hard to judge at present. The demo version that installs has frequent bursts of noise. Unlocking it doesn't work as present. There's no manual anywhere. Some of the presets impress, others don't. The XY joystick is difficult to fathom. There must be a deeper way of programming it, but I'm guessing that's hidden in the demo version. Overall, it's underwhelming and not good as a demo.

Where did you get the demo?davide37 wrote:I thought I'd treat myself to the plugin and bought it. It's hard to judge at present. The demo version that installs has frequent bursts of noise. It looks like you are treating yourself to pay for being a beta testerdavide37 wrote:I thought I'd treat myself to the plugin and bought it.

Octopus has that feature, but probably not as open to manipulation as this one?fmr wrote:Using FM with sample, though, may be very creative but also very difficult to control.

Their website doesn't shows up properly on my cpu using Firefox (latest version). The text is all mixed up, anyone has that problem? Otherwise, it looks like a cool synth.

Here is a track I did with eight instances of Biotek and some stock plugins in Tracktion.
It has quite some original sounds to play with.
