Mixcraft and Renoise.

The first one is more of the typical "linear recorded tracks" DAW and I tend to mix in that. Renoise is for producing detailed sequences where I want to really drill down into each note - you can't really beat the tracker interface for quickly making deep edits, as long as it's material that fits on the grid.

However I am always looking for more ways to inspire a composition's structure, which is now leading me in the direction of sequencer plugins, not new DAWs. I recently got Liquid Rhythm and B-Step - great tools that make it a snap to throw together something complex and more interesting than what I would do given a basic tracker or piano roll.

Yeah, I use Nora and Ezkeys together, that's my main compositional toolset. But DAWs matter there too, Live can't route midi channel info from track to track like Studio One can, so I've quickly realized Nora will have to serve a minor role when I'm using Live. But that's OK, I think Nora works best for me in the linear host paradigm anyhow. It gets me on to making Live do what I want it to do: be more of an instrument than a DAW.

Had S1 v2 and now moved to V3 and thinking about getting Nora so It would be great to know what is the best workflow in this combo.

Just got Studio One 3 and would like to host FL Studio 12 as a VSTi. Would like to know if this is a good combo and. Have any tips a tricks to help me?

But I have also wondered if FL Studio as a VST/VSTi would be good with Sonar or Cubase or Reaper. Should energyXT and Bidule be include to host FLS as a VST/VSTi?

Sonar has all the features I have on my list. I got S1 thought missing native 32/64 bit and item envelopes because of the workflow.

Glad braj started this thread as I often wondered the same thing.

Does Nora fit in with you perspective?
What other tools I assume they are VST's?
Please provide links.

Well, mostly because the routing needed is supported, unlike Live for instance, and by saying it is an elegant combo isn't to say some other hosts wouldn't work as well or be as elegant, just S1 is so for me, it just feels about as simple as it can be. I have fewer brain cells each day it seems, so simplicity and clarity are really key for me. And that I find one DAW simple and clear and someone else doesn't is fine, our brains all work differently. I also find Live super simple, so they make the best combo for me, I spend less time being confused. I love Reaper to death but it challenges my cognitive faculties a bit too much. I officially have brain damage, so maybe Presonus can use that for marketing: even people with brain damage can use this!

For years I had Reason rewired into Cubase. It was an incredible combination and I have literally hundreds of tracks to speak it...all the way back to 2002.

This year I really dove head first into Ableton Live and find myself working with that rewired into Cubase. The more I learn about Live the better it gets. Best part of it is having Push 2 dedicated to Ableton and Panorama dedicated to Cubase.

For a hiccup second I wanted to explore Studio One, but after a few hours with the demo I deleted it. It just didn't fit my flow.

I use that combi as well but i have the problem that the first event dont have any sound. Since i use FL as sampler/pattern player within S1 this is a real problem sometimes.

Studio One, Which version?
Is S1 hosting FLS? Or are you using rewire.
Not sure of the work flow.
Can you copy and paste track or clips between them?

A lot of controllers come with Live Lite, not Intro, but they're quite similar. I have three AKAIs, and I believe they all came with Lite. Gone are the days where lots of tracks are supported with Intro, however, so Ableton treats the two the same with respect to their upgrade path. I believe Lite only supports 8 tracks. Intro might in fact be 16 now, but also keep in mind this includes Send / Returns as well as constricts the number of scenes.

The cheapest route if you are set on controllers, thus don't need to purchase a new MIDI Keyboard, Mixer, or Drum Pads, would be Korg's Gadget on the iPad, which also will create an Ableton Live set with MIDI that you can sync over iTunes.

Musiclover, read on, I went ahead and used a $50 off coupon from Korg and got Intro for $49. It is perfect for me, the cost of a cheap synth on a sale for what for me is a powerful little DAW. I have my own VSTs and rarely go beyond 16 tracks, Rarely use more than two sends, can definitely get by with inserts. I can live within all that especially for what I want from Live. And the 8 scenes is a limitation I can live within as well, when I owned Suite previously I would usually make songs that used scenes like Intro, verse 1, chorus 1, etc. usually topping out at 8, as I even wanted to stay inside the default zone the Launchpad covers so what I saw represented what was available. I am a guitarist making my whatever quirky music, but for what I need and what I do I think especially as a secondary Intro is ideal. And surprise surprise, all the instruments from Suite are still registered, Amp and Cabinet are registered, EQ 8 is not. I put in a support request in case these are someone else's property, but there's a chance they let me keep them I think. 16 total add ons is what Live reports being registered to me. And I got a great new theme that I can about match to my Studio One theme and they feel very much like kin. My only issue at the moment is figuring out how to use my NanoKontrol2 that ironically is the item that garnered me the nice discount coupon. It's the one thing that doesn't work with Live. Anyhow, I feel really good having Live back, and I won't have the guilty feeling of neglecting a very expensive piece of kit for weeks at a time while i work in something else. $49 is just perfect.
