+1 for whatever, just not only standalone.

I loved ambient, but not being able to route the audio anywhere meaningful limited my use. It's just not my workflow for this kind of thing. It would be perfect to run into B2 or something like that in real time...

Probably going to get Lissajous anyway though. How about an effects version? Or are the visuals genereated simultaneously, not determined by the sound?

It's promising software but the tech support is non existent. I ran into problems with it, one guy said simply "can't help you" and another said "no one else has the problem, sorry you're having it" , wow really good way to keep your customers happy.

Well it's basically a one-man show and not exactly an expensive program. Not to condone bad customer service but maybe he actually can't help you.

As for promise: It's never been updated since 2010. I don't think there's a promise anywhere. It is what it is. :D

But what's your issue? Check the audio driver settings if you don't get any sound. It's max-based so that part is fussy.

Post

Re promising, I meant in terms of potential use, not that it's new software.

I've had great support from freeware authors in the past, so not sure price is the issue, also wouldn't mind if he couldn't help, but more like wouldn't, basically tough luck mate approach.

I get sound but it gaps after it runs through the envelope. So any recordings sound like they're done with a demo version. Sound drivers sometimes work, sometimes don't (seems to have prefixed them with something too tiny to read). Bought it on the strength of the feedback in this thread.

Live and learn I guess.

You're using an ASIO driver I presume? It defaults to MME I think for windows reasons. That will not be able to keep up.

Also go through the audio settings in the app one by one and make sure they match what your card is set to. It's max-based so it's fussy. Maybe raise the buffer size if your PC is slow.

Thanks, I'll take a look into those. It's so intermittent, the other night it worked without hitch. I ran it later with same settings and it started acting up. Do you know if there's any other software like this, other than Reaktor ?

Almost all max based stuff will be fussy I have found. To the point where I just got myself max and forgot about it.

Outside Reaktor but in the same price range there's Density.gs, for one. Lots of Reaktor stuff, as you've guessed. Ambient it not that 'fancy', and where it is it's hidden by the fact that parameters are not clearly labeled.

Maybe the Mangle if you work away from tonal results instead of towards it.

Frankly just looping an audio file into mmultibandgranular would give you something above and beyond what ambient ever was IMO. Not as simple to operate maybe but much deeper. Or substitute a grain delay for the budget version. :D

You're right about max, so fussy. I have the lite version of density.gs working at the moment, thanks for that. Will see if I can try mangle too.

Thanks again for the advice, am trying to do bit more than the regular ambient, good results so far.

Bought this about 10 years ago, but stopped using it due to later os/performance issues. Great that it's still being developed. Might see if I can upgrade my version.

Thanks :tu:

Beside some os compatibilities and an updated GUI, what else is new in term of granular features and engine? Looks the same software to me.

Is V4 compatible with Windows XP? My separate "vintage PC" is a home for all vintage music software and I will be delighted to have newest version there :)

Hello,

does anyone know if AMBIENT is still working on Windows 10?
Or maybe there's a VST alternative out there that does the same thing?
