Hi, I just wondered if anyone had ever had this happen to them. The radio station seems legit (www.powerfm-radio.com/manila/) and they private messaged me via SC to ask for the song to play on rotation. As with anything I'm not sure if this is a scam or not. If it isn't and they do indeed want to play the song what needs to be done with regards to licensing etc? I'm not signed or anything and the track was just made with a mate and I at my house so I am not really sure how to proceed. Any advice or help appreciated.

What are you worried about? In the era of the internet, you find that radio play will lead to more likelihood of someone copying your material? Is there such a likelihood do ya think of someone waiting with a recording device for your song to appear on the air having been apprised of the fact?

I've had my music broadcast on radio numerous times (more frequently copies grabbed off the net) BTW, so it's not a new one for me. Hits have happened from demos on the air, ya know. No offense, but get over it.

I could be wrong, but I was reading this more like he thought that by seeking some sort of licencing deal in advance, he could somehow collect royalties from radio airplay.

Donno. 'not sure if it's a scam'; contacted via SC. If someone wants to do a grab off of SC, there's not a lot to it. If you sent them a better quality copy, that's a difference but it seems elaborate for an unknown track. I was contacted at my email by an internet "radio station" (re: 'alternative' music) and it appeared to have some presence, but they wanted a fee to prioritize the process of actually considering it. Not so much 'scam' but a ruse. Anyway, for 'terrestial radio' it's a matter of are you with a P.R.O., BMI et al collects from licensed stations on behalf of their songwriters as a group and divvies that up.

Actually, I was just interested in experiences of any other people. I'm well aware that I really have nothing to lose, but the main thing is that I wasn't sure if it was a scam or not. If it wasn't then I wanted to know how to proceed. But, alas it seems its a scam

Royalties on anything I do would be a bonus, but I don't live in a parallel universe of dubious reality so I'm pretty sure I won't be making a cent off my music anytime soon.

Thanks for the link. I emailed the "radio station", but as suspected this is probably a scam. If i hear anything to the contrary I'll report back on this thread for future reference for others who may receive this email.

There were two more threads I found on other sites with scams that may be related to this below. I suspect the next step, according to the other threads will be an email asking me to submit a track to http://www.theakademia.com/ which costs $10. They are supposed to promote your music. Sigh..

So, this is definitely a scam as others have pointed out. I received this email back. The Akademia is a bogus website which purports to promote your music for only $10 a month for more Radio play.

A bizarre tale of utter bottom-feeding. I noticed one of the fake radio stations was using the call letters of a real station in New York state, a currently active one. That's so illegal.

A radio station has requested a copy of an unlicensed song of mine to play? What now?
