but I see theres quite a difference in price between the plug in and the stand alone (notwithstanding the current special on the stand-alone). I understand with the plug in you could use the modules on different tracks etc, but I really only want to try and master my songs.

So are there any major differences between the two versions, which would people recommend? I'd be using the OSX version btw.

(PS I looked on the IK site first, but I couldn't really find an answer to the above question.... is T-Racks OK to talk about here, I'm not sure....)

thanks....

The only thing I would say is that if you buy the plugin version at the moment you will get amplitube free.

Hi Zoing,

With the VST version you can either load each module separately or load up the entire plugin for mastering.

I have been inserting separate modules on effects tracks ( the T Racks compressor and EQ mostly ) but then, on the Master effects channel of my host, I load up the entire TRacks VST for mastering. Works fine for me. I master in my host though ( FL Studio ), but you could also master in Soundforge, Wavelab, etc..

Personally, I am a VST kind of guy, so I much prefer having the vst version than the standalone. I love using the separate T Racks modules in Fl Studio, especially the compressor. Plus you get Amplitube for free.... my opinion is: Get the VST version.

-edit- just noticed you use a Mac. I don't know if this would change anything for you.... sorry.. I use a PC..

thanks for the responses, I guess if i bought the plug-in version, I'd insert it in the ouput bus, with just a stereo audio track of the final mix going through it.

So functionally, they are pretty much the same then??? Seems a bit odd the plug in version is a lot dearer, then I guess its more flexible...

Still, got till the end of August to decide, with that Amplitube deal.

Seems IK stuff polarises peoples opinions, with T-racks, Amplitube and ST (which I own and love), people think they're great, or that they're... not.

I read great reviews from audio mags on the web for T-racks, but some people on the forums seem to hate it, I think I'll go with the reviews :)

Zoing,

Hey friend. Hope all is well.

I don't know about T-Racks (except the name reminds me of T-Rex, which I like), but when you by T-Rex you get Amplitube, which I think is awesome. A friend of mine who is a guitarist has it, and it is amazing. If there is any demo, you've got to try it.

Just recently got Amplitube and T-Racks with the special deal. I like both quite alot. I wasn't sure about T-Racks at first but after trying it on some things (just using presets), I really like what it does (I'm into 70's rock, prog-rock, and blues rock). It gives a nice warm vintage sound. If you are into more electronic music (dance, trance,...), maybe it's not a great match. And as eDrummist said, AmpliTube is quite good. Getting both for the price of one is a great deal! And also - the plug-in version of T-Racks does have additional features beyond the ability to split up the effects. Like a sidechain filter control for the compressor. The plug-in is the latest version and is definitely the one to get.

Thanks for the replies, Hi eDrummist, things are pretty good here i guess, but cold!!!! Finished off any of those songs yet??? I'm waiting for the next mp3

I am dwonloading the amplitube demo now, and I've done a few 'mastering sessions' with the T-racks demo, I think it make squite a difference, learning what to do to get good results will be the hard part.

Look out Visa card, here I come... :-o

Like a sidechain filter control for the compressor.
Please explain how this is done. I have the plugin version but never knew about this capability.

I would definately go with the plugin version. No question.

Beardedone,

I copied this from the manual:

"3) Sidechain HPF in the compressor signal detecting chain
This adds a high pass filter in the detector stage of the compressor. The
detector stage is where the compressor analyzes the incoming signal and
determines how gain reduction must be applied. This variable high pass filter
prevents, when turned up, that "compression pumping", mainly caused
by the programme’s low end content. The further this knob is turned the softer
and more inaudible the compression character will be. At the minimum
or at very low settings the compression will be much more aggressive and
noticeable.
Use lower settings when you want to “hear” the compression effect and use
higher values for a gentle compression, as you may want in acoustic mixes."

Hope this helps :)
