I am surprised propellerheads have allowed Reason to
languish so long at 2.5. I am not sure what to make of the situation. Its been more than time enough since 2.5 to redesign the remaining 1.o fx and build a decent synth--does the long rollout suggest they are taking the program in new directions--audio perhaps? High end modular instruments?

At what point does the franchise suffer from inattention? I'm thinking a pre christmas release--I
don't think the can stretch out to mudikmesse 2005.
Any rumors? pfj

Hmm.
ya know, I am not sure that they really need to worry about it. It is the most rock solid app in existance, and what it does, it does amazingly well. I think that people will hang tough for as long as it takes, at least the majority of users will, and there is always new people being fascinated by the program as it is, and when they do finally update it, Hopefully It Rules... :D
That's my opinion anyway. Jeez, I sound like I am a propellerhead salesman  I didn't mean for it to come out like that at all, seriously, I hate that. But it is pretty f-ing solid anyway. I could be wrong though...

I read in the Reason forum that they announce products when they enter Beta. And beta periods are usually 6-8 weeks. So any way you look at it we're a long way from seeing anything new. The wait to get new devices in Reason and better effects has frustrated me to the point where I dont even wanna use it anymore. Its collecting dust. Its just easier for me to get good sound out of Tracktion and VST's.

Of course theres those that say "Stop worrying about the update and make music". Well, I am. Just not with Reason which I payed $279 for. So I'd like to see it keep moving forward!

Anyways, I'm sure Reason 3 (or whatever comes next)will be amazing. But until then........bleh

My bet is that they will announce at their Ten year anniversary in Sept.

I'm still saving up for version 1.0!

...but then the darn price keeps increasing *shakes fist*

I hope with v3 they decide to totally redo the graphics of each module to allow the rack to fully expand to 1024px... or at least allow each module to run side-by-side. Looking at 'skinny scope' got very annoying very quickly.. and it doesnt look it has changed in 2.0 or 2.5 hrmms...

You got the modules and synths that you paid for. That's like me declaring that I won't use [insert VSTi/VST here] until it reaches the next version.

When it moves 'foward', expect to drop some more deniro on the table to pay for the new modules/feautres (and then be prepared to not do work with it until it reaches version 4.0 :D).

I got lucky and found V 1.0 on Edirols site for 149 bucks 3 years ago. Back then you could buy software on their site, as they did not have many products available yet. when they starting intruducing more products the closed out all their software , and I found reason for 149. I still use it alot. I usually write on my piano, but when I have a quick idea I want to jot down before I forget it, I fire up reason (or FL studio) and record it. I then rewire that into sonar and do the proper tracking when I have time.. I dont think of reason or FL studio as a complete song writing solution, but they are invaluble to me for getting my ideas fleshed out.

:? Its a little different than that. If I declared that I wasnt gonna use a VST synth until its next update (which I actually have done before)then I could get something else. I cant do that with Reason. I'm stuck with those until the next version. Unless I Rewire which defeats the purpose to me and is more hassle than is worth IMHO. I'm not really happy with most of Reasons modules or its sequencer which is why I'm anxiously waiting to see what comes next. And yes, I will be expecting to drop some cash on the next version. I started with Reason 1.0 so I'm used to it.

PS: September is a great guess. It makes sense. :)

AD80, I've been usinging Reason with Live4 and it is a match made in heaven. I think you're a tracktioneer, and so was I. But when I tried Live3 I was hooked, and now Live4 makes Rewiring very simple. I even like the fact that Reason loads up in a separate Application and Window...I can keep all of those modules up in my second monitor (or Alt-Tab between them) and keep Live looking clean.

Anyway, just my $.02 :-)

OT: Sup Drez. I'm kinda curious, did you find it difficult switching from a linear way of working (Tracktion) to a pattern/clip based way of working with L4? Or do you use Live in a linear way? Just curious since you used Tracktion. :)

I'll see your $.02 and raise you an eyebrow. ;-)

Reason and Live 4 work together like hand and glove. I enjoy using Sonar, and will keep right on doing so. But there are different ways of working, and Live's way (now that VST and MIDI are in there) is just as good as Sonar's. In many ways Live works better with Reason than Sonar does. Which is okay by me; each program has its very strong points.

All I need now is downloadable talent. :-D

Hi

for what it's worth I spoke to someone (last week)who has a relative that works for propellerheads and what he was saying is that (and this could just be the thoughts of someone low down in the food chain) the prop's feel that they have a unique product and to go into audio or vst's would bring them closer if not into the market place that pretty much everyone else is slugging it out in.

Now I am a pretty new Reason user and sure it would be nice for the program to become a fully fledged sequencer - BUT what would it end up becoming - think about it; it would get bogged down in a whole world of conflicting hardware issues, performance compromises, stability issues with plug-ins and who knows what else - would you want to go down that avenue if you had a product that had made you a little fortune with the bi-product of being possibly the most stable and efficient program in the business?

The thought's of this person are that further synth(s) will be developed and enhancements made to things like the piano-roll editor - in other words; what is there will just get refined and more usable.

That would suit me, perhaps long term they may develop a host that Reason can 'slot' into, that way the host could deal with things like Audio and plug-ins but remain a seperate entity in a sense a more comfortable re-wire host?

One things for sure - I am getting a second monitor, you really need to detach the sequencer and open it up (IMO) for a comfortable working enviroment.

Flipper.
