Buy uad or slate vmr?

Just getting seriously into mixing and i would like to purchase a plugin set that sounds nice and organic as opposed to "artificial". I was looking at these two, the slate is obviously cheaper but ive heard good things about it. Uad seems to have a good reputation. Would love some opinions from someone who has tried both. Would consider other options that stack up to these plug ins. Thank you!

Each platform offers different things (not many reverbs etc in the Slate deal) but my preference lies with Slate. The UAD cards are very, very expensive and I feel there is planned obsolescence in them too. The move from UAD1 to UAD2 meant that people who had spent money on UAD1 cards were left out in the cold when 'UAD2 only' plugins started appearing. Saying that, there are many happy users out there, but it just wasn't for me.

The Slate plugins are more focused in their appeal but for the low subsription deal ($20 per month for everything but the reverb) can't be beaten imo. Slate is going to be adding more plugins to the package for no additional cost as well.

One thing to consider is to weigh up cost against technological redundancy.

Eg I have 2 Creamware Pulsars that originally cost roughly £2000 and Kyma £4000 just over a decade ago, neither are now supported but do still work, but for how many more generations of computer hardware/software ?

I own products from both companies. If money is a factor I'd start with Slate. They are efficiently coded and sound great. I have been using UAD products since they first belonged to Mackie. They are expensive and you need to invest in the hardware. The UAD platform was amazing when it first came on the scene as computers were slow so having high quality efx without taxing your computer was revolutionary. Computers are faster now and this isn't as big a factor. UA makes some of the best plugins on the market but Slate is more than competitive in terms of quality in the EQ and Compressor categories. I'd start with Slate unless your budget will allow both. IN that case, I'd buy the Slate EQs and Compressors and pick up the UAD and round out your plugins with some of their plugins in the reverb, delay and mastering categories
