Hi all just wondering if I am the only one on the planet with this prob. Terratec space 7.1, I am well pleased with the output etc very sharp and clean but have one prob that is really getting to me!! The card will NOT record from internal mix in anyway shape or form. Am quietly going bald here it will record fine from all other inputs but not from internal Ie recoridn a wave/midi etc whilst it is playing, please someone give us a clue before I really do go bald TNX

Not familiar w/that card...but unless it states it can do that,I don`t think it`s possible.

There are apps.(maybe free ones also),that enable you to record anything that is being output through your soundcard.

They will record wave and compressed formats.(if you have the encoder codecs in your system for compression, like a lame mp3 encoder codec.
Some will have there own codecs.(not the freebees I think)

One nice one I use..."total recorder"

PS: If your bold...you can feed the soundcard output to its input, and use an app like sony sound forge to record the off line input. But I don`t recomend doing this if your not sure about it.

Hi thanks for your input, I have already been down that road, and it doesn't work either. I emailed Terratec and they were very quick and told me that the card doesn't actually do this, and that I would need to get the next card up (Inspire) but they are the same tec- spec, and drivers and Both cards state they are capable of recording from ALL Available Sources and that they are fully compatible with Wavelab/CubaseSx and Sonar etc fortunately I use a dual boot system and have 2 s/cards installed but as the (space) is the one I wanted for most of my recording work would just like it to do what it says it does
Cheers

inspiration sez;

I just read the pdf docs on the mixer driver details.
So,do I understand you saying "any source input/then record enabled, will not channel that source to your wavelab or logic/sonar?"

It`s clear to me that it is intended to do that. The internal driver,(as you know),is responsible for that channeling.

If this isn`t happening...there is clearly a prob.(unbenounced to support)
Can you be sure you understand what the documentation is trying to say about the source/record settings interactions?

Details in translations get screwed in type,as you know.
Willing to assist anyway I can.

Hi Barry, as a for instance, suppose one wanted to re record part of a wav/mp3 playing in ANY media player
or a midi file for that matter or any other internally
generated sound, this just cannot be done as you get a vu reading of around -50db and then if recorded with gain applied all you get is very low recording output with plenty of noise. I have been suspecting that it is a driver prob as the card willingly goes through the motions using the mix record tab and it seems to me that if it was not designed to do this why put a mix button there? I have put this to Terratec, who insist that there is no prob with the driver but that it does not recognise the windows mixer??? seems very strange to me as even the cheapest soundcards are capable of this... I have been through all hardware and driver settings umpteen times and have even done clean installs of XP, ME, and 98se all with the same results and on intel amd and nforce mobos grrrrrrrr
Some sys specs
Gigabyte kvt600
XP3000
1 gig corsair 3200 ram
2x 120gig maxtor drives
+ all the usual other bits

Cheers for you interest/help etc

Hey chris.

Read the small description of that mix fader,in the "record" section...or was it in the source section...no matter.

Besides not understanding what is being mixed by that fader, the docs didn`t say anything about being able to record from a running audio app/player.

I looked for anything remotely suggesting it,but didn`t see it there.

Seems the card uses the windows microsoft DX drivers,(not the same type of driver the card installs),but I have no experience with a DX audio card other then my net pc`s Philips DX/WDM card. This card has it`s own mixer driver, and a fader called "wave",but it will not record a player,or anything.

If you happen to have sound forge7,it will record any sound outputed to you soundcard out.
I`m pretty certain that card won`t do that.

If you end up desiding to get a free wave recorder app.and don`t know where to find one...let me know,i`ve seen a few.

later Chris.

Hi again Barry more thanks for more input but having been frustrated by this card for a couple of months now
and being the second card as I returned the first. I set about thinking the problem out in a roundabout sorta logic (LOL). I figured that if the damn thing won't do it,then I would have to get around the prob another way, so having a spare box XP 2400+ laying around I set this up with a half decent s/c and with a bit of jiggery pokery with a Behringer eurorack mixer channeled the sound through to the line in of my DAW, took a fair bit of head scratching but eventuall all works well. The Terratec still doesn't do waht is't supposed to but by compromise and using 2 machines I get the result I need plus a few other advantages. I have lower o/heads on DAW as I now channel all midi etc through the spare and use all vst's on it as well, then passing it though the mixer
into the line in of the Terratec. Result is perfect as the various controls on the mixer allow me even greater freedom over the actual sound going in. So far so good no latency problems lower system o/heads
very low noise threshold etc and I get what I want only down side extra box but hey what the heck (who dares wins) but this stupid card won't do what it said on the tin but for the excellent sound output from it I suppose it'll do for now
ps tried SF7 still no go, thanks for all your help
Chris :)
