I do think the polyphonic descritption is slightly misleading, although it still offers more features and sound for the money than anybody could have hoped for.

I don't think it's paraphonic...

It is. 4 voice = one oscillator per voice. You can't use both oscillators and still have 4 voice poly.

Sooo, how does it have an 8 oscillator unison then? Or am I reading something wrongly.

4 oscillator unison from the Sweetwater video, or so I understand it.EvilDragon wrote:Sooo, how does it have an 8 oscillator unison then? Or am I reading something wrongly.

But you can clearly see him tweaking the two oscillators in 4-voice poly mode, starts at 3:14 in the Sweetwater video.tehlord wrote:Same video ^^^eXode wrote:Where did you get that idea?tehlord wrote:It is. 4 voice = one oscillator per voice. True, but you don't see him playing more than one note.eXode wrote:But you can clearly see him tweaking the two oscillators in 4-voice poly mode, starts at 3:14 in the Sweetwater video.tehlord wrote:Same video ^^^eXode wrote:Where did you get that idea?tehlord wrote:It is. 4 voice = one oscillator per voice. Later on he describes duo mode as having two sets of oscillator pairs (still 4 osc's in total). Seems redundant if you have 4 note poly with 2 osc's on each note, surely?
It has 8 voice modes, not 8 voices.EvilDragon wrote:Exactly.
As far as I can tell.
Here's hoping I'm wrong and both of you are right.

Not redundant. In duophonic mode you can do interesting stuff with ringmod depending on which notes you play. So even if it has 8 oscillators, for proper duophony only 4 would ever be necessary.tehlord wrote:Later on he describes duo mode as having two sets of oscillator pairs (still 4 osc's in total). I think someone is confusing oscillators with voices. Duo is like just for doubling up to get a fatter sound (like unison). The voice modes show's the actual voice configuration not the oscillators. There's nothing in either the demos or the info supplied by Korg that suggest that there's only 4 oscillators.tehlord wrote:True, but you don't see him playing more than one note.

So, what you're claiming is that two-note polyphony and paraphony are the same thing?tehlord wrote:It is. 4 voice = one oscillator per voice. You can't use both oscillators and still have 4 voice poly.
Because they're not.
Its also not the case that a synth that's able to do 4 voices with one oscillator per voice doesnt count as polyphonic just it'd be limited to 2 voices with two oscillators per voice.
The commonly accepted meaning of paraphonic is that it can play multiple notes but shares a common VCF (and/or VCA). Paraphony, however, has nothing to do with the number of notes that can be played.polyphony

noun: polyphony
the ability of an electronic keyboard or synthesizer to play a number of notes simultaneously.
And, I suspect like ED, I cant actually see anything to indicate that it is paraphonic by the commonly accepted definition, where did Shy pull that from?
