Just received an email from a service that claims that is better than Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Music together :)

"After many frustrations with the disorganization and carelessness of
SoundCloud, billing issues with ReverbNation, and the lack of a useful
consumer interface on Bandcamp, we decided to create Orfium. It's an
open free hosting platform and marketplace for musicians, and a music
discovery and listening platform for fans. Content providers are in
complete control of how their music gets heard with no long-term
contracts, and all services simply offered non-exclusvely whenever
possible, period.

We are excited to announce that you can now embed music on your
website and blog from Orfium, and one-click share music to social
media. If you currently have music on SoundCloud you can simply have
it all imported to Orfium automatically to make the switch simple."

What do you guys and gals think about it? Haven't read in details what the terms are, but I think that the one that is the biggest, becomes the standard and there is not much to do about it - vide Soundcloud or Spotify... It will be hard for them to grow and win in this market.

There is also Hearthis which is a lot better than Soundcloud. But they are too small, not many users and if you use this platforms to promote your stuff, there is no alternative to Soundcloud because you reach a lot more people.

If you ask me, I would use this platforms as another "backup space" and if songs must be shared over Facebook where you need an embedded player (this feature was removed with Soundcloud).

Btw. some important features are the ability to update a track with a new file and the ability to put X tracks at the top of the list. I don't know if Orfium has this features?

If Soundcloud is a "Youtube" of music hosting - it would be nice to have a "Vimeo" one too :).

I did a quick look and I like Hearthis better than Orfium. Orfium looks a little bit like a WIP...

shows where ive been at...i didnt even know sc changed the embed policy. i was moving away from it anyway...but now...whats the point?

they really ran that place into the ground...and now the most useful feature is gone? i cant decide if i should just delete my account there or leave it. i guess ill leave it...but i wont update it anymore...not that i have been.

i had no idea sound-cloud doesn't allow you to embed tracks anymore?? I wonder why, i never read the policy updates.

The first website you posted looks a little janky in design, it's hard on my eyes and difficult to navigate at first glance, i'm going to give it an honest shot though and see how it goes a few months in.
All of my songs are dedicated to a girl I used to
be obsessed with and is very embarrassing but also
is what keeps me going. It is a monument to her.

Soundcloud allows embedding with it's own code on a website.. but they don't support an embedded player on Facebook. They changed this behaviour last year so they still supporting the Opengraph API but it's now only displaying a link to the Soundcloud webpage where the user can play the song/tracklist. Users don't like this decision but it's Soundcloud...

Hearthis supports an embedded player (I expect Orfium too)... so it's an alternative if this feature is needed.
