Entering notes in cubase 7 score editor ?

There is a button to the left of the step entry button in the cubase 7
score editor that says computer-keyboard, when I hover over it with the mouse.
How do you use this? It's not mentioned in the manual.It is not in the picture
of the score edit window in the manual. Cubase 7.07.

OK got it right this time.
I've only got 7.5 and up, but on page 756/7 it is explained thusly...
From the manual:

Entering notes using the computer keyboard
A quick and easy way to enter notes, without having to decide on the pitch, position
and note value first is using the computer keyboard. To enter a note, proceed as
follows:
1. On the toolbar, activate the “Computer Keyboard Input” button.
Now you can enter notes using the computer keyboard.
2. Hold down [Alt]/[Option].
A note with the note value specified in the extended toolbar appears. By default,
the insert position is the first position of the bar and the pitch is C3. You can
however change this using the computer keyboard.
• You can change the pitch of the note by using the up and down arrow keys.
To transpose the note in octave steps, use the Page Up/Page Down keys.
• To change the insert position of the note, use the right and left arrow keys.
Note that for position changes, the Quantize value is taken into account.
• To change the length of the note, hold down [Shift] and use the right and left arrow
keys.
This changes the note value step by step, passing from one Quantize value to the
next.
3. To insert the note, press [Return].
The note with the specified pitch and note value is inserted at the selected position
and the insert position for the next note changes according to the Quantize value.
If you press [Shift]-[Return], the insert position does not change, allowing you to
enter chords.

I think you must be a wiz with a keyboard to use this method!

Enable/show the virtual keyboard (here alt/k does); there is a mode for it to display a music keyboard of a couple octaves. In C5 tab key toggles qwerty v. musical keys.

I thought this method only played notes from the selected instrument/MIDI track?

I've seen that in the manual, but i'm not tryina do all that. You can play the computer keyboard as though it's yer usual MIDI keyboard, you want a long note you just hold the key down, within its range it's a perfectly cromulent way to be.

Well, it's keyboard entry rather than step entry. Both are ways to record notes to midi editors, onto a given MIDI track. Those instructions indicate "A quick and easy way to enter notes, without having to decide on the pitch, position and note value first is using the computer keyboard." and now we're editing... I'll get a lot more mess to edit in real time acting like it's a musical keyboard, it's pretty easy and fun.

I haven't written in score editor in years, I always used the mouse. It's not a great benefit:cost for me. But yeah, RTFM, Index: 'keyboard input button' like you done...

I have read the manual and like I said the picture of the score editor did not
contain that button! Logic has a cool virtual keyboard in the score editor that
lets you change note values.

My manual has a picture of a note icon button that C5 does not actually have here as well. But that entry at least as pasted in here should sort you.
