Perhaps more interesting would be to improve the mixer workflow without leaving the 'no mixer' paradigm. I do agree however that the midi editing and mixing workflow seem basically unchanged in ten years and could do with major revisions.

jens wrote:False. There is no logic in what you say. If you have an inline MIDI editor (as Tracktion has) and a MIDI editor that opens in another window (as Tracktion does not have), and you are free to either open one or the other, then that does not make it less "unique" in any positive way, to take away one of those options. It does not add anything to take away functionality.
I was referring to the mixer, not midi editor. I've no objection to a larger midi editor, it could replace the bottom panel when you want to go deeper.

Back in the day there was the suggestions by some users to be able to flip the whole screen by 90degrees...

that and the ability to store and recall screensets...

and to create custom shortcuts (consisting of an arbitrary number of other shortcuts)

and the option to maximize the MIDI-Editor (i.e. so that it uses 100% of the visible timeline area)

Also: you can't resize individual filters - they all always share the same size, so being able to do that would help a little too...

That would at least be a start.

For me, the showstoppers are bugs and subscription.
since when does tracktion use any kind of subscription model? There are showstopper bugs, sure, but it's a low purchase fee and you can use that version and all version updates until the nxt major version, for the rest of your life. And then the upgrade cost is peanuts vs every other daw.
Not so sure what they will do price wise with Tracktion 7 upgrade price or new price , we will see . Tracktion is very bare bones and I wonder if T7 will be a little more bloated with loops , effects, and instruments ? Or will it stay lean ? :ud:

but with the mixer it's basically the same thing - except that Reaper for instance, would be a lot better suited for this sort of mixing than Tracktion. Tracktion's filter panel is just so chaotic, messy and confused, even though it uses up big amounts of screen-space. Imo it is a complete fail, design-wise - on reason for this is that the volume faders are vertical, while the panel itself is horizontal - *ouch* - it's hard to think of a worse design-decision than that. Also all filters-widgets share - as I mentioned before - always the same size - even if they're disabled and afaik there's no way to hide them.

And I think it's a real shame, since there are so many good ideas, even in this part of Tracktion - and the same goes for the MIDI-items.

yeah, it was the filter handling that I found just didn't work well...

We're all different. I don't like this, you do. You don't like that, I do. Sorry to sound like a stick in the mud but that is one of the beauties of this.

Now, about this "3rd party" compatibility/CPU optimization thing............ :hihi:

really? I thought t had pretty decent cpu and core spreading. What problems are you having?

Lol.
Okay, so you don't what it's advantages are, that's fine. But Labelling it broken design because it's horizontal is broken analysis, not broken design.

I like the volume / pan filters in Tracktion. It does really show a mixer is kinda pointless in a DAW , excluding the Harrison Mixbuss and Reason's SSL mixer both of those are a different beast .. T7 appears to be doing something different with included Tracktion EQ filter from the screen shots I've seen , we will see .

With code NAMM2016 I get $20 off the upgrade to T6, in other words it costs just $10 (plus VAT for the unlucky) :o
