So I DLed your pattern andimported it in my StiX, and the answer is : Check the GATE TIME of the bass drum in the single line sequencer editor. In pattern A, only the first step of kick line has its gate time altered, and has approx gate time 50% ( so that explains why the two following kick strikes are shorter, because their gate time is zeroed, wich gives the nice contrast/effect). In Pattern B however, all the steps of the Kick have the same GATE TIME (like if you had used the gang mode edit ), but it's slighty shorter than the first step of pattern A ( approx 30%) So all you need to do to recover the same kick character is adjust the gate time in pattern B and maje it a bit longer for the 1rst kick. And now that you have understood the trick, yoàu can fix all the patterns as you want. And use this for all your beats.

the GATE TIME parameter is an essential parameter in StiX. I'd also recommend to read the little chaper I wrote in the manual about the relationship between the sequencer gate time and the analog enveloppes. It takes a few minutes, but once you'll have mastered it, nothing will stop you :)

And .... nice minimal beat :tu: I enjoyed it.
Thanks Lotuzia - I had looked at the Gate as I realised it was related to that. Try this though, and I think the nature of the bug may change slightly, perhaps it's a GUI/Gate bug..

<deleted wall of text> - I think I need to play more if i want to accurately report these.

I would make this one request - when loading into a new project, StiX loads up with the last used pattern and kit; can this be changed to load any preset? Say, my own initialisation Kit? Perhaps this is handled in the Miscellaneous options, "Init settings from current settings" but I'm not sure.

Also, page numbers in the manual - listed in the index, but none on the pages!

I've got a feeling today is going to whizz by.. I should really be recording some acoustic guitar, but man, I wanna learn this! You're an awful human being Lotuzia, forcing us to question our priorities like this

Ok, I think I understand what's going on - I think the Patterns have hidden Gate settings which aren't visible on the GUI.

Here's a vid which demonstrates the problem:

Observe step 1 has Gate set to 0, but it still sounds like it is set longer. And when I move the Gate for Step1, it 'resets' back to what the GUI represents. Whereas the other steps are being as they look.

I hope this helps!

Yes it's a GUI refresh problem wich sometimes occurs, where the real values are not shown. When you actually edit the steps, it goes back to normal. When this occurs, just select another drumpad or another sequencer view -this works every time for me-), then go back to the advanced edit panel, it should solve the problem.

Yes, my hope is that people will increase their experience with StiX, gradually discover all that it can do, and therefore have a lot of fun and pleasure with it.

Manual : Will have to edit it and make it reflect what StiX is now.

I have a feeling there are plenty of folks taking time to explore this today - many of them not on KVR..

I noticed another GUI bug - when entering the name of a preset to save, after clicking on the text box, it's not really possible to see what I'm typing:

Omg, this one I did not see. Thanks for the report :tu: looks weird indeed :o . I *think* it might be related to a precise GUI size.

Could you please indicate me what GUI/UI size do you use atm : Small, medium or big ? (I'll do some tests myself but not possible before monday morning, so this could help)

OK - let's get down with this. Once and for all.

Regardless of what I've to say - below - I want to maek one thing clear. I'm a firm fan av XILS-Lab instruments. They are imho always of very hight quality. STIX is by far no exeption from this.

The reason why I've not said much abotu STIX is that there's no tmuch to say really. The instrument speaks for it self. It's siply brilliant.

....except for this one thing - the GUI.

It's basically a mixture of various shades of grey (or gray as I suppose the peanut butter eaters in the west says).

So to be frank. I simply don't understand the philosophy of a GUI with grey knobs and buttons on a grey background.

Not mainly, or only, becase grey is such a .....grey...color. But mostly becase the lack of proper contrast.

As I've said a zillion times before here at KVR - a GUI is firsy of all a USER interface. In other words a working tool. And secondly a piece of art to admire.

You desing/shape a hammer firstly from what it's suppose to do. Secondly so it'll fit the hand and firt then after so it'll look nice.

And so, there's no point to shape a virtual hammer after a real one if it doesn't suits the actuall purpose of the virtual hammer.

The same , of course, goes for imitating real life hardware in virtual instruments.

A black box with black knobs and buttons might be perfectly OK in real life. But an vitual imitation of that? A black GUI wiht Black buttons?

But it's more or less what we've got here with STIX.

I'm not saying it has to look like a rainbow. What I'm saying is that it has to fit it's actuall purpose. Being a working tool for the eye.

One have to maek majro changes. Changing the various shades of grey wont do.

So, developers should really spend more efforts, both intellectually adn creatively, on GUI development.

Sorry, if I'm soudning harash, It's not my purpose. I just think STIX deserve a better GUI. Becase apart from that [the GUI] it's a marvelous and wonderful instrument ! :-)

I don't remember changing the GUI size at all, so it will be whatever the default size is.

HellOo Sfd : There might be another skin for StiX in the future, but atm we're at stake with finalizing the current GUI/UI, and some other problems/bugs that affects some systems, and that we can't reproduce here.

We're also refining some functions, like user samples management, while making new drumpads, drumkits, global presets etc.

StiX Glasgow

Kick is VA and one oscillator only  HH are virtual analog also ( closed and open are made with the same sound) . No compressor, no nothing. Keys are FM8, and the bass courtesy of PolyKB II. I've also saved the drumkit and it will be included in the V 1.0.
Another demo using song mode. Keys are Xils 3, and the bass the POlyKB II -again-.

Will it be user skinnable?

No. Btw StiX has 3 GUI sizes, which should fit all kinda screens.

You might want to consider user skinning. It may help resolve the issue with all the complaints about the GUI. I could image a library of skins (TR-x0x, etc) would add great value to users. :)
