I guess those who bought into Renoise at v2.0 will now have to pay to get the upgrade
As v2.0 came out 7 years ago, Renoise is great value for money
I mean which other DAW (except life time free upgrades) gives a user that long usage time without having to pay to upgrade?

Reaper has a similar one version upgrade policy doesn't it? But yeah that's still a minority of the market, Image Line/Renoise/Cockos are the most consumer friendly DAW developers. Some of the most well coded programs too, trying some of the $500+ DAWs I'm amazed that they ask for that for something that is unstable and stupidly resource wasteful compared to something that costs a quarter of that, has a significant period of free updates, and has less obtrusive or no DRM. Number one thing any program has to do is actually function, when I crash the demo within 20 minutes of starting it I'm looking at the $450 price tag like the developer is out of their minds.
Renoise on the other hand I've been using for 4 years as my side DAW with not a crash and not a bug. 3.1 is a great update, finer column selection is something I've wanted and the new filters are much improved.

To be fair here, Renoise developers are very slow, their updates are few and far between and while they have the illusion of being big updates they have had to be to bring the software anywhere near upto date and relevant nowadays, it still lacks massively in the sequencing department (Sorry, but even for a tracker head like myself, it needs a timeline and piano roll, add them and it is upto and on par with any other software)
