Lexicon vs. Valhalla Reverbs

The wow/flutter/tape crinkle of the Space Echos resulted in an early example of modulated reverbs. There is a CRAZY amount of pitch modulation going on in a tape echo, and running 3 of them in series compounds this.

Is it possible in Übermod to emulate such multiple pitch modulations?

Is it possible in Übermod to emulate such multiple pitch modulations?

The Diffusion section in ÜberMod kinda does this. Each channel of the Diffusion has several modulated allpasses in series, and each of these has some random modulation going on. The modulation is of a different nature than a Space Echo, but there is enough of it in series that the end result is pretty random.

Here's a preset that combines some tape coloration/distortion with some randomly modulated diffusion for a tape reverb:

Turn down the Feedback slider to get a shorter decay, and turn up the Depth slider, ever so slightly, to get a bit of pinch roller flutter.

Right now i have the Shimmer,neve, lex, bx and emt uad stuff, breverb 2, and lex pcm bundle, which is the only reason I am not getting more verbs as there is literally no point. I also have arts acoustic but haven't installed that in a while, but even so, that is also absolutely usable.

have you compared phoenix/r2 to lex pcm?

When my Lexicon PCM90 stared having problems, I demoed Valhalla Vintage Verb (VVV) to see if it could replace it. It did. Indeed, VVV sounds a lot thicker and lusher than my PCM90 ever did. But, don’t take my word for it; here are some sound demos I made of VVV in action:

Breeze is my favourite of their products because results are easy to get, even though the algorithm is not *that* broadly useful. But when it works it works. I wish they released new streamlined versions of their other stuff.. before up above, i didn't mean to say they were bad reverbs (they kind of remind me of TC stuff, but last time i demoed them was years), just that i found them painful to get results out of (B2 and aether that is).. i like to be able to tweak a verb but not to the point of those.. It sort of borders on ridiculous to me.

50 bucks for breeze is well worth it, check out this review only 4.5 years ago (when most verb plugins were already at a very high standard all round):

I still use and like Spin Audio Roomverb M2, by same guy behind the 2c plugs (some snooping reveals he also worked for Soundtoys later)
This was considered an equal to some of the best verbs back in 2004 2003.
Great thing about these old plugs is they become more useful as they use 'less and less CPU' as tech evolves

Anybody tested Lexicon LXP Native Reverb Bundle? I can get it for 77€. Vintage Verb ist still 50€ but but the price sounds really fair to me for a real Lexicon reverb.

It all seems to be a matter of taste, but with lexicon I always have the impression that magic is at work. I noticed that even back then, when I wasn't familiar with the brands. I have tested Valhalla, strangely it hasn't convinced me, maybe the wrong types tried. The dark mode is supposed to simulate the top end noise I think I've to test more.
