Is Anyone Using the PreSonus CS18AI with S1v3?

I'm having second thoughts about this.

I can foresee me getting Cubase Pro again at some point, and I wonder if it's a good idea to get into a hardware piece that is so integrated with Studio One.

I love the idea of motorized faders and dedicated controls for my current host, but what if I move on at some point? How useful with this control surface be for Cubase, or another host?

I'm pretty sure I'll continue to compose in Studio One, but mixing might be another matter, which is mostly where this controller comes in.

Any thoughts on this?

No idea tbh. It probably does MCU or something maybe, dunno.

But your point makes sense. You invest in proprietary things because they're more functional because they're proprietary as relates to working with some other thing, has some additional functionality with that other thing. When you invest in a semi-expensive proprietary thing (largely for that reason anyway) it's probably a good idea to think about how long you plan to use the other thing it works so well (or better) with.

Like with the Studio 192. It's integration with Studio One is really great, it doesn't integrate nearly as well with any other daw.

I'm always very reluctant to buy any piece of proprietary anything. I don't like DAW proprietary plugins or plugin formats, proprietary hardware, etc. That's a strong strike against the CS18AI. If you suddenly decide to jump to Cubase, you essentially have to put the thing on eBay since it doesn't appear to be MCU compatible. The Behringer X-Touch seems cool, and at a very attractive price point, but I've heard more than one person say the faders are jerky in Studio One, with the integration being less than ideal. At this point, I'm not sure what control surfaces with flying faders work particularly well with Studio One (that will also work with other DAWs), but you could always ask around.

We will be adding support for other DAWs in 2016, but don't have a firm date just now—sorry I can't offer more info!

...when specifically asked about Cubase, which would be the host I'd most likely move into from S1v3.

I will say that it will take quite a while to save for a mixer or control surface. This has my hopes going up, though.
