You can get Bitwig 8 Track more or less free, if you have a look at the serial center over at Beat.de

8 track is cut down version of Bitwig, but lets you load external VST's (but limited within a project)

I'm using a crappy Realtek soundcard which I will upgrade if I can. Drivers are all upto date. I think my Kontakt installation may not have been perfect.

If it's happening with Reaper too this is a good indication that it is maybe not related to Kontakt,otherwise a lot more people would report crashes using Kontakt (in Reaper).
Are your drivers up to date? Is your OS clean? What soundcard (driver) are you using?
Kontakt is super stable for with FL Studio for me as well. Have been using various version of Kontakt in FL Studio since version 6 or so and I can't remember it ever crashing...

Yes you're right.I wrote "in Reaper" because i expect muuch more screaming if Kontakt would have such problems in Reaper.

Ohh,

,i would suggest to replace that with a proper Asio soundcard.The new Yamaha AG03 is a nice USB soundcard that i'm using with my small rig and it works very well.

I had this cheap Behringer UCA222 "soundcard" thinking that a hardware interface would be better than any software

Asio4all beat it no problem

the best 'alternative' or solution is use fl studio for all your midi, then rewire or host it as a plugin in reaper/studio one..
i actually think that live is the closest in overall features but even it's midi editing is pale in comparison to fl which is capable of so much...

I agree with this statement about love being similar to FL. Live has a superior "rack" system and mixer IMO. But studio one has some similarities too. They just added a great way to layer and save instruments and effects. Not quite as good as ableton at the moment but I'm sure they will keep improving it.

Also, the piano roll is more powerful, and if you work mainly linearly, the arrangement window is superior. "Scratch pad" and "arranger" are super handy. And like I said earlier, editing multiple instruments in one piano roll is a breeze.

all sounds lovely, but since version 3 i am unable to install studio one on my machine.
i suppose limitations are sometimes really helpful, i am having to go back to fl and find, for me personally, that it is still very fast and full of hidden treasures.

Hi, OP here. I'm still testing but I believe after months of headscratching I have finally fixed this particular crashing bug with Kontakt. I'll give an update soon but as it stands, I'm sticking with the wonderful FL studio as there's no need to switch if Kontakt is stable <3

PS. Yep I'm using Asio4All.

I still seem to get the old crackle behavior due to 2 gb limitation in FL, even 12. That's one reason I'm glad I don't use it as my main daw anymore, but it's nice to have for rewire in S1.

Best alternative to FL Studio?
