Hey,
I just got some data from a BM US reissue owner and updated Muffin Rider with it.
Here is the A/B result (0% sustain, and 100% sustain, both with tone set to treble).
BM US reissue vs. Muffin Rider A/B comparisons.mp3
Capacitors values are way higher (1u) than on my own black sovtek version (0.1u).
this gives the whole circuit a much lower hipass resonance, around 1Hz! (make it behave "wildly" i guess, with the sound kicking roof and floor clipping tresholds randomly in the next element in the chain).
Also the gain stages capacitor, the one next to the diodes loops is 1u instead of 0.047u which is a ridiculously huge difference.
Makes the gain stages completely different.
From emulation analysis point of view, the 0.047u gain stage is more interesting, but I admit the sound difference isn't as dramatic as the response to test sounds may suggest.
Still, the black and the US reissue definitely sound different, and I guess that guitar players playing them for some time would probably notice differences in dynamics too.

I have a US reissue and i honestly can't stand the thing, and can't wait to get it off my pedalboard and replace it with a more dynamic fuzz box. The thing is just way too compressed with the unfortunate combination of not being able to cut through a mix well. So you end up having to basically turn it up way too loud to hear yourself over cymbals and what not. And then when the other instruments cut out it's way too loud.
Nice to have around for recording, when you want that wall of sound fuzz, but just not practical as an all around fuzz box imo.

I havent read all 17 pages of this thread yet but boy, does this subject lower the bar!
Basically, if there is an accurate muff clone VST, thousands of doom metal fans will rejoice. I prefer more of a distortion tone myself, but the guitarist in my band used a classic big muff straight into a Marshall JVM head and gets a huge tone. He used it to record this as well...
Basically, his big muff straight into a boss digital recorder and then the files were reamped through a vintage orange amp in the studio. Sounds a bit noisy around the edges, but basically, that is pretty much the sound of doom metal.
now, if that was possible with a free vst... it would make a lot of people I know very happy.

I've never found a software plug in that I like as much as a hardware fuzz box. I love the one inside the Kemper, but for more impolite sounds, I still turn to a Zvex Fuzzfactory. It's not like they're really expensive, but so worth it.
