Just went looking for it & there's no word anywhere about it on REFX's website. Anyone know what happened to it?

Why don't you check the demo and report backTjgoa wrote:can that do the vocal talk box type sounds too?
PlastiCZ is nevertheless discontinued so users need to look for alternatives

Kinda sad. PlastiCZ was it's own thing. Like chomping on plastic. Very peculiar waveforms and envelopes.
It's sad when synths, games, etc just die instead of being set free.

Sorry if I'm derailing the topic, but have any of you ever used that UVI CZ pack? Verdict?

Not to mention that it looked cute and is very different than anything else ever made in the VST world. I really love pulling it out here and there and playing with it. It doesn't have trillions of parameters so it's really challenging to dial in different sounds out of it. I really love it still till this day.Sendy wrote:Kinda sad. PlastiCZ was it's own thing. I remember not thinking much of it and then -iirc- Plughugger released a soundset called 'It's Bake Lite' or something that had some really, really good sounds.
I did see the sale for Virtual CZ - it sounds *really* good.

They should have set PlastiCZ and Vanguard free. They could have required people joining their mailing list in return for the downloads and been able to market to a bunch of potential new customers easily.

The thing is, when companies release their older plugins as freeware now, the company will probably be judged by the quality of years old, abandonded stuff. And people will probably even demand support for it. And maybe the company will want to head in a completely different direction than with their old stuff. Or it's 32-bit only (see Tone2 Firebird), and you wouldn't want to offer it in such a limited way. It's really a decision the company should take, not anyone else. If they don't want, they don't want. Tbh, from a nowadays perspective, i don't see anything special about Vanguard e.g. anyway, there have been so many improvements in Tone2's synth since then (after all i think Markus from Tone2 was responsible for Vanguard, right?), that i doubt that Vanguard is better than the 5 or so synths which superceded it.

this still has it's place in my sound pallet for PD sounds. it can be very metallic and great for brass.
some people like the colorful gui, but it looked too toyish to me so i gave it a Casio VZ-10M inspired
facelift.

That's true - I would not want to waste time supporting a free product but that's easily averted by not providing support for it (good reason not to charge for it, really). Really good point about being judged by older products though, but it would still be better bait for new customers. Remember when the 'no brainer' deals were common a few years back? That's still a cheaper way to find a new customer than typical advertising methods.chk071 wrote:The thing is, when companies release their older plugins as freeware now, the company will probably be judged by the quality of years old, abandonded stuff.
