Hi Attila, I would be happy about an arp-function too, but please make it possible to have rests and difficult note- lengths in the arp-sequence, a randomize- function and, if possible, multiple notes. That means that more than one note can play at one time.

A short explanation for 'Lock To Scale'.
You have an original phrase but you want to keep its shape/figure through scale changes:

Setting scales on the master track will change this phrase. The 5th note becomes the 5th note on the F Minor scale, therefore the shape changes:

Enabling the Lock feature will result this:

Similarly it works well with chords, except that for chord notes a suitable offset is found since the previous chord to minimize note movement, because choosing the nearest chord note would not work. Original phrase is 'PianoSample02' resized to 4 bars:

Enabling the Lock feature will result this:

I hope you will find this feature useful.

Hi Attila,
'Lock to scale' looks very interesting. Checked it out a little, tried to generate some chords via 'Generate progression' and something seems to be wrong.
After clicking on 'Generate progression' the chords are not displayed correctly, see screenshot:

What's happening here?

This is very strange. I tried hard with the same settings but I could not reproduce it. Did you change anything in the Default Major Scale Rules? Will you please check the chord definitions in the chord browser, maybe it got corrupted. It seems to me that a chord has zero notes.
Does this happen when the 'lock' feature is disabled? What is the simplest way to reproduce this issue if I start from a new composition?
Thanks!
Attila

Hi Attila,
no, I have not changed anything in the Default Major Scale Rules, BUT I have edited the Chords.rcCHRD extensively. I tried to reduce the set of chords to those that I really use, it's an ongoing test, but it works well for me.
I tried to return to the original Chords.rcCHRD and then this erroneous behaviour is gone!
I will send you my edited Chords.rcCHRD by mail, maybe you check why this happens when I use this file?!
Greetings, Max

Thank you Attila for making the lines between tracks user editable. i now have them looking very distinct.

Does there currently exist a tool in RC that allows one to specify the notes in scale and then display all of the scales that RC knows about (including user-defined scales) that contain the selected notes?
If the answer is no, can one be added to RC?
I am thinking that note-selection for such a tool should work similarly to the way it already does for scale definitions: the user may select up to twelve notes on a one-octave keyboard that assumes C is the tonic.
It would be even nicer to see the scales for all of the matching keys (e.g. the notes C-E-G would match C Augmented, C Ionian, C Lydian, C Major, C Major Minor, C Mixolydian, ..., D Aeolian, D Dorian, D Major Minor, D Minor, D Mixolydian, etc.). The user should be able to optionally specify a root key note on a separate keyboard to narrow down the matching scales.
So the Scale Finder tool might look something along the lines of the following:

Here is a mock-up with all twelve notes selected on the keyboard (and with no root key note specified), so only the chromatic scale matches (of course, an optimized search function would not even bother searching through all of the scales in the scale library since there is only one scale that matches all twelve notes).

P.S. I am guessing a similarly-designed Chord Finder tool that works with RC's existing chord library would be useful as well.

isn't there a way already to define a user scale?

Yes, there is a way to define new scales, but Tony's suggestion helps finding scales quickly and easily. It would be very useful, so this will be added in a next version.
Thanks for the idea, and the mock-up screenshots!

Hi everyone,
as you see the arpeggio generator was added in the latest update:

Feel free to comment and criticize.
Thanks,

Hi, Attila,
I haven't been writing for quite a long while (partly because of my growing laziness
), but finally I feel like doing it, because
I was very pleasantly surprised with your latest arpeggiator addition
In fact, I was always wondering (silently
) why your great program still lacked that basic generator and suddenly someone noticed that drawback too and was wise enough to ask you for it...Well, better late than too late!
I just checked it's basic settings and I have to tell you that in a whole almost everything works fine (at least for a 15-20 minutes tests), except for some strange visual bugs occasionally happened on "Phrase variations" page - OK, it's not a serious problem, though, because those bugs disappear after some additional clicking and changing various settings there
Anyway, I am very satisfied so far with my first experiments and may be the only thing which I am still hoping for is the universal implementation of rhythm extract feature (not only for generators but for all "hand-made" phrases too).
Thanks again for your hard and unstoppable work,
yours truly T.
