I'm on El Capitan and I use Mixbus 3 exclusively for mixing purposes, I have to admit there is a crash which has annoyed me a lot before the latest interim release came out. Literally, editing was impossible in mixbus for me. Every time I click on region to edit something, Mixbus crashes. I was so annoyed with this bug and send the crash report to Harrison I think they got it fixed on the latest interim. I can't confirm since I haven't edited anything on the latest release yet. That is the only bug I had on my system.

Known Plugins which might be able to crash Mixbus, not only Mixbus actually but also Studio one 3 is Nomad Factory and IK multimedia. I don't think IK does on Studio one but those two up on removal they crash Mixbus so I always save a session before I remove any inserted plugins from Nomad or IK.

I can't use Mixbus for MIDI. It doesn't support Multi channel out put for drum related VSTi for Mac. And it uses too much DSP resource. Other than that it is stable enough to mix a song.

except for Harrison DSP plugs and UI tweaks, are there any other differences between Mixbus and ardour?

AFAIk they are the only two daw's that do so, and if the saturation is at zero, then they should indeed null with every other daw.

Sonar?

I will agree here (for the last one I tested anyway). I don't use a lot of plugins mixing with it (Windows) but it does still just kinda crash at random if you do the wrong thing, like tweak the audio device while it's playing or something else not all that unusual. It doesn't really so much "crash" as just do a "white out", and lock up.

Caveat: I haven't used the very latest MB interim build so... that may not be the case now... just to be fair... I don't want to falsely associate the past with may be a different current reality. I should grab the latest "demo" / interim build to be sure.

Not that I could see, looking at them side by side. If there are, when there are, it's typically Ardour having features that haven't cascaded to MB yet. Ardour runs (seems to me anyway) a wee bit ahead of MB feature wise. They'll put new stuff in Ardour and then later you'll see it in an MB update.

Aside from the DSP stuff, I didn't see anything in MB that's not in Ardour... but if there are some other differences, Bob and company could speak to it.

Yeah ardour development is way ahead of MB. Ardour released v4.6 this month but here 3.1 is being previewed which (correct me if I am wrong) is forked/branched from ardour 3.1...

I don't think So Lawrence. It is just a number thing. Most probably Mixbus 3.1 is build on Ardour 4.5

That was my thought, although it didn't stop me from buying in, and I was well aware of the situation after reading their own and various other forums, eventually curiosity got the better of me and I had to hear this 'sound' everyone was talking about for myself.
