Normally you don't need more than x2-x4 oversampling. You could use that in realtime and render in offline mode at higher OS rates.Tp3 wrote:JFI guys... clipper @x64 is mighty CPU hog (that is to be expected, I guess).
On my very old computer (9550) anything above x16 is a no-go.
And if I thought about buying a OCed 6700k, now I seriously think about 5820

Geif beta.
I'm interested in some of this thinking too, in some classic forum you could argue that a limiter is compressor with infinite ratio, but many have different parameters, I'm thinking of the old stuff like PSP xeon and even FF to what I saw.

Is there a glitch requesting a demo?
I had to fill out the request a second time after 1 hour or so because i have not received the demo installer in my mail.
The second time i immediately got both requests at once though.

First impressions are very good and I find it to be quite intuitive (haven't read the manual yet
).
A few of things come to mind so far:
Would be nice to (optionally) see all of the analyzers at once: http://imgur.com/rxpg8hb.
The scroll wheel when selecting different analyzers seems backwards. Freq -> Time -> History top to bottom and yet you scroll up instead of down. Same for scrolling through the Styles. Small quibble...
It would be nice to be able to lock some specific parameters when changing presets. Especially Threshold and Ceiling. Guess if I had read the manual I would've noticed the lock button that does exactly this
Oh yeah, VST3 Limitless doesn't crash Reaper like Equilibrium. I've been meaning to report that ever since 5.01pre4 Equilibrium VST3 has crashed Reaper.
Nice work fellas.

DMG Audio are the masters of making plugins that look like they belong in front of Spock on the Enterprise.

just added this to my arsenal; did a shootout of my other 2 'best' limiters...and decided to get limitless. impressive on all fronts (and works perfectly in logic X 10.2.1, and os x 10.11.4beta).

I can't hear any discernable difference to Limitless with my current clipper+limiter (+meter) setup, which cost me $20 and is more CPU friendly.
I am sure Limitless is a fine product, and I am glad many of you love it, but I don't have any need for it at all.

KClip + Lively Audio Maxwell (still in beta) + dpMeterTheoM wrote:can you at least say what you are comparing it to?
KClip is doing almost all of the work, the limiter is reducing just 1 dB of gain.

i spent just under an hour, comparing it with 2 other limiters (both 'pro' plugins). tried a variety of settings, options, running the same song thru each (i created a project file for this, using the chorus from a mixed song, repeated 3 times; 1 per limiter).lesha wrote:I can't hear any discernable difference to Limitless with my current clipper+limiter (+meter) setup, which cost me $20 and is more CPU friendly.

2 of the plugins fared best, and it was close between them. but opted to get Limitless, not just for it's 'sound', but for it's options (far more detailed than the other plugin).
sound comes first, but everything counts. the settings, variables, visual component to Limitless made it a worthwhile investment for me...and will definitely be exploring it more over time.
bottom line tho: whatever works for you. it's all subjective (of course), and often, to be honest. subtle.

In fairness, if straight-up clipping is the aesthetic you're after, I'm not surprised that Limitless isn't so interesting. If clipping your peaks off is an acceptable solution, then your limiter needs won't be so demandinglesha wrote:KClip + Lively Audio Maxwell (still in beta) + dpMeterTheoM wrote:can you at least say what you are comparing it to?

Dave, is Limitless using some internal oversampling for the limiter? CPU usage is very high (without the clipper) and latency is about 1019 samples, so something I would expect for heavy oversampling?

Yes and no. ISP engages some oversampling.4damind wrote:Dave, is Limitless using some internal oversampling for the limiter? CPU usage is very high (without the clipper) and latency is about 1019 samples, so something I would expect for heavy oversampling?
Most of the CPU cost is the linear-phase crossover. You should see disengaging bands reducing CPU cost.
Dave.

I have compared them without a clipper and Limitless preserves mids better than Maxwell. Still, I prefer using KClip as it gives me much better and more transparent results than driving a limiter only.DaveGamble wrote:In fairness, if straight-up clipping is the aesthetic you're after, I'm not surprised that Limitless isn't so interesting. Edit: I was clipping 2 dB only with KClip, but I've tried some insane limiting of 20 dB and now I can hear what you're talking about

This would be nice to read in the manual as well.I don't know why some developer won't mention the default latency.4damind wrote:and latency is about 1019 samples
