My entry is called Sundogs and is a 3"52' mix of late 70s electronica and prog rock.
Created in Studio One v3 Pro, it consists of 21 tracks in total, 7 of which are percussion, 3 are bass, 9 are synths, 2 are SFX. Every track uses MPowerSynth so there are 21 instances of MPowerSynth in total.
All effects used are Studio One's own. There is a Pro EQ on each track. Some tracks have a MixTool for volume shaping as the track progresses. One pad sound has a Binaural Pan effect for stereo widening. There are two effects buses: a Room Reverb and a Beat Delay; each has no further inserted effects. The Main output channel has a Pro EQ, a TriComp, and a Limiter. The TriComp was used to add saturation only; no compression was done, or felt to be needed, on any track or bus.
I composed the piece for OSC83 but after the competition I intend to remix it with more than one synth and using some non-free commercial effects.
I hope you enjoy it.

Yes, exactly... the first pitched-down synth when the drop hits at 0:28. It gets reused... I've had a heck of a time figuring out the Au5 bass thing on any synth except with Razor, which I don't like using much for some reason... And what is the modulation? a frequency shifter? or am I way off? Actually come to think of it, I'm really bad at dubstep basses altogether. Argh!!kokotte wrote:Z prime, you tell me about a sound "a la" au5, in the drop i think, the main synth or...
i can share the preset if you want

it's a sine with transform recurse2 set at max, automate for some movement,in advanced,a transform shape with 2 mod point, halve engage and assign to a modulator, harmonics 2/3 open at max-100%- this voice have an unison,3V,another osc with a sine mix at 50%, a filter diffuser 6 with freq mod by env, in serie a BP(automate for the wobble things)/ in fx section, 2 eq's in serie modulate( a hp with res and 2 bell at +500 and -250 hz), the hp make a kind of growl, in parallel a formant filter :all arrive in a vocoder(vowel are in the side chain),after the vocoder, a crossover,2 bands, the 2nd band, the high, in a flanger, and the important thing: modulate the freq of the 2 bands with the crossover(you can try the same tip with a reverb too) after i have split the sub and the rest, cut the sub, compress the rest and put another MPS for the sub replacement
i'm going too share all the presets after the deadline, the difficult part for me was to make the drum synthesis part....
cheers

Wow, thanks for that... Now if only I can figure out how the heck to do this with Serum without a wavetable import...kokotte wrote:it's a sine with transform recu...

the problem with serum is the vocoder, and, without a specific wavetable, the modulation of the transform shape... but with a WT and some externe fx, all is possible, i think, the important thing is the vocoder and the freq. movement in the flanger or reverb input.(Au5 makes his sound with massive, and listen the result !!!!- if you give him an osc challenge with synth 1, everybody will be amaze,-
serum can do the same, with some massive table or other, some Fm and filter but the eq modulation, vocoder and freq sweep into an fx must be done in the daw), it why i love Melda synth, the quality is top and you have all inside (more than we can expect:))

I tried remaking the chorus patch in SynthMaster, Alchemy, and Zebra, and doesn't come close. Sad to say, the patch on MPS may have been purely by chance, though in my mind I was chizeling away to recreate the sound I was hearing in my head. (the sound in my head actually was a super talented church choir that I heard over Christmas) SynthMaster doesn't have a formant filter, Alchemy's just didn't sound really good (not clear), and Zebra's had very clear formants, but the overall formant was too broad. I guess I could configure a filter to create the formants, which technically may be possible in SynthMaster, but that's a lot of work.. Bleh. MPS for some reason has really great sounding formant filters I guess.

Done!

This is my "tribute" to the Commodore Amiga and all the inspiration it gave me growing up. Featured are authentic synthesised sounds from a 9600 baud modem, authentic 4 channel tracker (well more or less.. lol) and authentic cliches from every tracker / demoscene / cracktro soundtrack there ever was.
Just a whole lot of fun really! Anyone who enjoyed the Amiga or was into tracker music back in the day will hopefully get a kick out of this silly thing.
Done in Renoise tracker (of course) with 26 instances of MPowerSynth. From Renoise was just a bit of EQ here and there, and final track compression/limiting. Oh, and these are all my own patches. No presets used (also obviously... couldn't find a preset for 9600 baud modem, so I had to improvise
)
I have to say, using MPowerSynth was bitter sweet. It really allows for interesting waveforms and it was great doing an OSC with so many effects available, but wow... as I said in an earlier post, it's like a textbook case of how not to design a synth as far as UX goes. Sub-windows popping up all over the place, functionality just crammed in anywhere, highly unintuitive, and also a few bugs making life interesting. I definitely see the appeal of this synth and it sounds great, but yeah... I just didn't get along with the interface at all.
Anyway, good luck to all! Long live the OSC!

Hi all,
My first chance to enter an OSC. The song is called Mpowerment
https://soundcloud.com/babel-two/mpowerment
Written in Bitwig Studio (1.2, Mac)
11 instances of Mpowersynth including 3 within a drum machine container (no fx, just workflow + playability improvement)
Fx used - 2 x bitwig's compressor + 1 x Bitwig's limiter - all on master Bus
Its my first entry so I hope I got all the details right - I'm a big fan of Osc so its great to finally get a song in.
Thanks
