I'm shopping for a new midi interface to use with Cubase SX on a Laptop. My external gear consists of a DSI Evolver and a PCR-50 keyboard (The PCR can be connected via USB however). Basically I want a 2inx 2out in case I buy another module somewhere down the line.

I'm a little weary because of what I've heard about USB & Midi. I found a MOTU (pocket express) that connects via serial/parallel port which has me very curious. Anyone have experience with serial port midi interfaces or should I be looking at USB?

MOTu MIDI drivers and Windows 2k based systems(including XP)have been known to have issues-maybe that's changed, though.
I use a USB interface(a Midisport 8x8)without any timing glitches or anything like that. The important thing is to make sure that the USB ports are always getting power;the hubs shut down in XP to conserve power by default.
Go into device manager, and right click each root hub.Under properties/power management, uncheck everything.

Have a look for M-Audio 2*4 Midisport USB, they are under £50 now. I have one and it works perfectly for me.
