Mixfood Unison v2 got a horrible GUI, but looks like a real bargain at just $19

I wonder why so few Rack Extensions are being by reviewed by music press?
At music radar for example only a handful have been tested over the last couple of years

Another new RE, most def not expensive at $19: https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/megasaur
But a spartan synth like Meagsaur would probably be released as freeware had it been a VST

I'm guessing you can use other modules to modulate it, no? In that respect it could be more powerful than it at first seems, it does have three oscillators.Numanoid wrote:Another new RE, most def not expensive at $19: https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/megasaur

If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

4MER is a four-oscillator, eight-operator, waveshaping polyphonic synth from Ochen K. It’s got four LFOs, five envelopes, two multimode filters, a four-stage tone stack, a reverb and digital delay, and a ten-channel modulation matrix.

Ochen K is one of the developers that I really like making REs.
Such is the appeal of using a new one of his REs that I might actually fire up Reason (not the current version) for the first time in over a year and check this one out.

Sorry but 4MER is quite terrible, even for the low price.
*Only 4 voices of polyphony
*Filters seem to be global and not per voice (or envelope?)
*Oscillators sound quite bad/crude, honestly I think it's at most on par with z3ta+ 1.5 sound quality wise.
*Despite this it's a CPU hog.
*A lot of crackles when I tweak/play, something seems broken.
*FX (reverb in particular is terrible) are bad.
At it's current state it's not even worth the low price, imho.

I wonder if I should dowload latest Reason version and check it out
How is it again, is it possible to preview rack extensions in Reason demo mode?

I think they are kind of pricey if you look at the long haul and the fact that they can only be used inside of Reason. Just ask some users who have spent literally thousands of dollars on RE little by little over a period of time. That system only serves people who solely use Reason and are not involved in the VST world. Then, I think that RE are not such a bad value. It all depends on the beholder.

Reason can ReWire so any RE can be "input" into another DAW supporting rewire, but it takes more effort than if it was possible to just load the RE as a VSTOrbit-50 wrote:I think they are kind of pricey if you look at the long haul and the fact that they can only be used inside of Reason. This is how it can be achieved in FL Studio for example
